Several of us went to see their performance of the Nutcracker. It was absolutely magical, and our seats were quite comfortable. The only downside is the cost.. it can be quite prohibitive.

Went to see a performance of the above ballet last night and loved everything about it. The venue is stunning and the performance was wonderful. The costumes, the dancing and the beautiful music - outstanding. Especially loved one movement by the ladies of the court where they appeared to be going across the stage on wheels! They were actually dancing across the stage on points, moving extremely fast. Brilliant.

Only one thing spoilt our enjoyment. A very young child, maybe 5 or 6, was sitting in front of us with her mother. Romeo and Juliette is not an especially good choice for one so young and she was so bored. The child didn't sit still for more than a few minutes; up down, up down playing with her seat, playing with her hair, waving her arms in the air and loudly whispering to her mother. Please parents, be more considerate of other patrons around you.

The building is grand and impressive as befits its title. We saw the Nutcracker. Pretty good show but cramped, inaccessible seating detract from the experience. My nut was cracked by the end of it.

I am glad I saw the Nutcracker as it is a Christmas classic. I knew it was ballet and I wouldn't love it, however some constructive criticism for you:

1. Staff were very snobby and not good with customer service. For example, Usher dropped my program didn't say one word or offer to pick it up for me.

2. Very pricey

3. Not very high level of ballet. Timing was off and dancers were not precise. The first couple of numbers dancers were basically hopping around. I could do that.

4. Needs some updating. Maybe more flips or Ariel. Something more exciting. Lots of long drawn out repetitive hops around stage. And animal abuse. Caging rats and trying to kill a chicken. Very out dated.

5. Orchestra was wonderful

6. Audience clapping all over the map. No clear cut finishes.

7. Good luck fitting in the seating if you are tall. Do not see the play if you are scared of heights.

The set was wonderful. The dancers gave their best. The costumes were superb.
So why disappointed? It seems the Political Correctness Police have taken over the artistic direction of the National Ballet. One of the most enjoyable dances is the Oriental Dance which was excised I presume lest it offend anyone of Asian extract.
Does this mean that next year the Arabian Dance is out? Tchaikovsky must be rolling in his grave. You should have left social engineering and politics out of it and stuck to what you know...dance. Artistic direction has lost its way and does not deserve this important responsibility. Time for a change.
