Description: The old is celebrated in new ways at Bar George, a modern-day rendezvous set in the grand heritage home once belonging to Sir George Stephen. Honouring the former resident’s roots, our chefs cook up contemporary takes on classic U.K. fare, spiked with Quebecois quirks, while our bar pours time-tested drinks. Situated in downtown Montreal’s Golden Square Mile, Bar George is located inside Le Mount

English pub food. Very cool building / decor. Very good bacon wrapped prunes with pate. OK scotch egg. Odd beet salad with pea puree. OK steak tartar, too much pickle for my taste. Good Stephen's Mess (meringue and fruit).

Booked the restaurant at the last minute (8:30 PM reservation made at 8:15 PM on a Friday night) and had no clue that we were in store for a wonderful experience.

Restaurant is located inside the Le Mount Stephen Hotel. There is a small sign for the restaurant in front, which made it a bit difficult for us to find. Right now (summer), there are three dining areas - a beautiful, wood-paneled dining room, a bar room (also wood-paneled) with an oval-shaped bar and a few tables and an outdoor terrace. Each area was filled and lively, but not surprisngly, the dining room was easily the most subdued of the three.

I just want to take a moment to note that the hostess was the best we have ever encountered. Hands down. She was professional, but had such a lovely demeanor that made us feel so incredibly welcome - like your favorite cousin bringing you into your grandma's house. We've encountered wonderful hostesses at various Michelin-starred restaurants, but this particular hostess was superior to all of them.

Service in general was professional and friendly. We never felt rushed, and the time passed incredibly quickly as we talked and enjoyed our food. At the end, we were shocked that we had spent 2+ hours for our meal (appetizers, entree and dessert).

We all found the food to be excellent across the board, but we especially loved the roasted halibut and sea scallop entrees. For dessert, the whiskey pudding was decadent and delicious, and pretty much torpedoed my diet.

Not cheap, but we found the experience to be well worth our money.

Located in the Hotel Mount Stephen, Bar George is a stunning step back into an imagined past of dark woods, high ceilings, comfy chairs, and civilized cocktails. The space is gorgeous, the bar attractive and well stocked, the bartenders talented at creating classic drinks, and the small plates delicious accompaniments to the cocktails and décor. Of the latter, make sure to try the frites trois fois and the devils on horseback. This is a bar to sit with friends and discuss the big issues of life, or to have an intimate conversation about what really matters. You will feel better about yourself drinking in a place this stylish.

Bar George NOTHING NEGATIVE TO STATE HERE. What an excellent choice. The building itself its absolutely beautiful, designated as a national historic site. Location is smack in the Golden Square Mile. Lots of shopping/restaurants/hotels. Champs-Elysees of Montreal. Food is what one would expect fr an English/Scottish restaurant/pub. [I'm fr Europe therefore, bias] Had res but ended up eating/staying at the main bar. Scotch Eggs...have them...excellent. Cauliflower cheese Hamburger w/chips [fries] hubby said delicious, cooked to perfection. Moi had Sausage rolls. Loved them, very British :-) Wonderful Wine List. Full stocked bar. Servers excellent very attentive/cordial/efficient. Decor as one would expect from the 1800. Look up the history/ oh!! make sure to visit the Women's WC UPSTAIRS Gold Sinks/faucets...beautiful. Take a peek around.

I had a wonderful experience. We had a couple appetizers which were all delicious. Our waiter, anthony, was simply perfect, with a lot of class when serving the wine. I do recommend going on the terrasse. It's a nice blend of fancy and comfy.
