For many years, when visiting Quebec City, my wife and I have strolled past Auberge du Trésor and the outdoor cafe below thinking "just another touristy venue". How wrong we were.

Last year, we decided to dine at the restaurant where we were blown away by the food, and we picked up a brochure about the hotel. This year we decided to book into the hotel and we were again blown away by its ambience and location. Wisely, we booked the hotel by phone several months before our visit. Reserving this way was both simple and accommodating, and we secured a room that suited our needs and had a fantastic view of the park outside and Chateau Frontenac above.

When we arrived at the hotel we were delighted to find that it, and our room, on the second floor had been newly renovated -- the spacious room with a king bed, a state-of-the-art bathroom, a sitting area, and a great view through three windows as promised. It was a unique pleasure staying in a room that combined the ambience of 17th century thick stone walls integrated with contemporary furnishings and amenities. Despite the busy location of the hotel, our room was quiet, we heard no outside noise, and we slept well. This three-star auberge has no elevators, but staff were helpful with the luggage and in addressing any other needs we had.

The location of the auberge could not have been more central to the old town of Quebec -- a short walk up to the Chateau, its boardwalk, Rue St. Louis with its myriad of restaurants, and to the funicular down to the lower town and port. And of course there was the "1640 Restaurant" downstairs, which served a fabulous breakfast at a reduced rate for hotel guests, as well as providing reasonably-priced delicious lunch and dinner menus.

This treasure will definitely be the venue we will choose for our next visit to historic Quebec City.

Spacioious room and bathroom, the only negative points are no elevator and no on site parking. The closest parking is underground about a 5 minute drive through narrow streets and then about a 10 minute uphill back. Very friendly and helpful staff, restaurant with outside dining is attached to hotel.

A perfect location in old town Quebec! Located across the square from Chateau Frontenac on St. Anne, this small hotel is in one of the oldest buildings in Quebec. Modern, recently renovated rooms with comfortable beds and modern bathroom with amenities. Old building, so layout is charming and quirky. Rooms are air conditioned. Rooms are quiet but front rooms can here Bistro music although music stops at 9pm and is very good. Hotel staff was exceptional and bent over backwards to accommodate and assist guests. Ask front desk for discount coupons for Bistro 1640 in front of hotel and save on meals (breakfast is delicious). Caution: there is no elevator and stairs are steep. Discounted parking in public ramp by city hall (a block from hotel). Would definitely stay here again...comfortable and location, location, location.

We were 3 family couples and stayed in 3 rooms. All were clean with great beds.
The place is perfectly located with great views of the Frontnac and in the center of everything.
The hotel has the charm of a mom and pop Euro place but even though all rooms are not exactly alike they are consistent and again clean. The windows opened to the street for the cool night air and even though in the middle of everything, it was very quiet at night.
Will not believe you are not in Paris in this place.
We will stay here as our 1st choice on our return trips.
The restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating which is part of the hotel was great. We ate there often and always believed the meal was high quality and reasonable prices.
