When booking our accommodation we decided to pay more for a charming ‘Old Quebec’ experience. We had visions of a charming, but authentic, room in this heritage precinct.
On arrival we were confronted by the 4pm check-in chaos that reflected an absence of management or process. The staff appeared quite disorganised and stressed. It was not a welcoming experience. Oh, and we were advised that we would have to pay an additional $22 per day to park our car.
Choosing to treat this ‘welcome’ as part of out ‘charming’ experience, we persevered. We were advised that we had been ‘upgraded’ and shown to a room in a separate building across the street. Entering this shabby space with stained carpets, we dodged garbage bags and made our way to our pleasingly spacious room - complete with kitchen facilities. It was bereft of any anticipated charm and a bit grubby.
The reality did not meet our expectation - or align with Arcadia’s promotional spiel. Oh, and if you are not quite physically fit, be warned that you may have to drag your luggage up several flights of stairs - with no offer of help from reception.
My advice would be to stay outside the walled city and save yourself significant $$. You will not be disadvantaged as it is all so close for walking.
