Even with a GPS, this charming old mill is not easy to find, however once we did arrive we were warmly welcomed and shown to the "Chambre des vieux livres", not the room we had booked, which seemed to be a constant theme during our weekend in the Loire Valley, but an even better one, also a constant, so it was fine. The room, in keeping with its name, is indeed decorated with lots of old books, and a rather eclectic mixture of other antique items including an old type writer. The room was very spacious, and had a rather nice chaise longue and a reasonably sized bathroom. In spite of the lateness of our arrival, our hosts were able to recommend a nice restaurant in the local area. We had a little trouble opening the gate when we got back from the restaurant, despite the detailed operating instructions given to us by our hosts, but thankfully they were able to let us in. The next morning, breakfast was served in intimate surroundings in front of a roaring open fire, which the family dog dug! The highlight, however, was the homemade yoghurt, much better than anything you could imagine finding in the supermarket! After breakfast we were able to explore the property under snowfall. The building is a converted water mill and retains the former wheel at the side of the house. In the summer months the gardens (with pond, swimming pool, and winding pathways to explore) would be an ideal place to relax, even if the TGV train track does run quite near the property. We should say though that this did not disturb us in any way. In conclusion, this B&B provides excellent value for money in an authentic old dwelling, ideally situated for exploring Chambord and the surrounding area.
