El Palacio is a beautiful colonial building fronting one side of the main square. It houses a library and a museum of Campeche city history. The museum is mildly interesting but suffers by being spread out on both sides of the library with unclear directions for getting from one part to the other. On weekends at 8 pm there is a fantastic light show projected on the facade from the park in the square. This show is much more sophisticated and poetic than any light shows you may see in Merida or at archaeological sites. It is absolutely delightful! On the Friday evening we attended, a very good marimba concert preceded the light show.
