Some tips. Tour buses pull out shortly after 11:00 so if you arrive then you have the place pretty much to yourself. Informative video details the ruins and how they may have evolved and looked during the ages. Numerous poster boards and then you are free to walk and explore. Have some fun imagining how it would have looked during the different ancient time periods. Nice, clean, modern washroom. The views from the area and from the nearby 18th century Fort tell you why this was such an important city state as you can see the two very large harbours. If you can, go on a clear day.

As part of our day trip this was a place I wanted to visit. When we got there , all we saw were the views of Souda bay and remains of a castle. Although the views were stunning, we never got to see anything else.

Only 2 euro to get in... what an amazing place. there was a small visitor area - but the video was excellent and really gave you a good view of the area.
We loved every minute of it and much preferred it to Knossos. If you are staying near Chania I would urge you to go.

Archaeological site with great views. Only €2 to get in. The helpful guy at the ticket kiosk explained the area and gave us a simple map outlining the cisterns, theatre and other remains. There's a room in the centre with lots of information boards but not a lot elsewhere around the site.
It gets very hot with little shade around the site, and no food or drinks available so go prepared.
