We booked to go here but had to postpone due tot he snow - we rang and the hotel said it was treacherous, but would honour a stay at a later date - which was good. We received a very warm and friendly welcome from the bar staff, who showed us to our room and explained everything very well. The room was lovely - a nice mix of country and modern with a large bathroom. There was a well stocked mini bar/fridge. welcome chocolates, bath robes and slippers and nice toileteries, as well as some shortbread. Before dinner the waiter brought up some canapes which was a lovely touch. In the bar on the evening the service was good if a little slow - the girl on the bar was trying to juggle demands from people wanting drinks and to order food as well as people paying all on her own. Once we had a drink the service was great. food was lovely had the scallops and the moneybags for starters and the fish en papillot for mains, with treacle tart to finish. All very tasty and well presented. breakfast was good, but a bit of a better fruit selection would have made the fruit salad - twas mainly apple. but cooked breakfast was good - with half portions available, and the smoked haddock and poached egg fabulously done. Would return, and would recommend for a night or two away - great walking from the door and round about.

Room Tip: all rooms we saw looked lovely - some on the ground floor in the annex have small patio areas which would be lovely on a sunny day.

We stayed at the Angell Inn for one night and really enjoyed it. The room, as well as the restaurant and the whole place, is very atmospheric. Really liked its beautiful pretty antique furniture. The service was very pleasant. And we enjoyed the food, especially risotto with rabbit. It is a good place to relax.

I have visited the Angel many Ines over the years and like its former sister the General Tarletan have always enjoyed the visit. Indeed on the previous visit the food was very good and in plentiful supply. When visiting last month the quantities have shrunk with vegetables as a side the same as with the meal, could we have been told? Toad in the Hole gravy not quite right and mushroom potatoes an unnecessary variation. Also unusually slow. I hope this merely an aberration but it does put you off. Please return to form.

Ate in the restaurant last night, the service was impeccable, the food absolutely outstanding. I’ve been going to the Angel for 30 years and find the whole experience such a treat even after all this time, the atmosphere so warm, I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else on a snowy March evening. Always my number one choice when we have a child-free evening!
