A quiet retreat in beautiful surroundings

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 24 Sept 2018
My wife and I chose this hotel for a week's exploration in the Netherlands, and were delighted with our choice. We arrived at the hotel after a flight from North America, and started to drag our bags into the lobby. The owner had one look at us, and said "You'll never get those up the stairs, I'll put you in the coachhouse". As a result, we had a very private 2 room suite with a patio and were very comfortable for our entire stay. The location is stunning, and we enjoyed walking in the park and through the village. Hotel breakfasts were filling and delicious.

My only negative point was that the wi-fi system was not reliable - but this was being worked on during our stay. I can only hope that this part of the service has improved.

I would definitely stay here again. The owner and staff are friendly, and provided good recommendations on restaurants and activities.

Room Tip: Ask for one of the rooms in the coach house!

The hotel seems to be in the middle of nowhere. Is it not the place were we all eventually want to stay from time to time ? The morning sun in the breakfast room looking out through the windows will put you in a contemplative mood. Ideal place for a romantic week or a busy professional brainstorming session. I was totally under the charm of this hotel, such a nice place to stay.

We had wanted to see this area of the Netherlands for some time, and this was one of the places we picked. As a much younger woman I had spent some time sailing here, and my husband's uncle was hidden here during the war, when his plane was shot down. What a lovely small town! I picked the B&B because we like them, they are generally friendly places and you pick up good ideas on where to go. There was no elevator to our room and we asked if there was a room on the ground floor. The manager asked if we would mind sleeping in the Koetshuis, the Coach House) and we were delighted when we saw it. Parking right at the door, a nice area to sit outside and enjoy the large lawn with old trees, a small kitchen with fridge and coffee/tea maker, and extremely comfortable beds as well as a modern bathroom. It was a lovely, quiet location and an easy walk to the harbor and village and the restaurant where we dined. I would stay there again, in fact, I will be back there in September!

We stayed here for the weekend. Traditional room with modern bathroom. Watch your steps in the room, ther are some steps. The wifi was no good. However there is a living room with television and places to sit and enjoy the free coffee and tea. The Wifi is ok overthere. The breakfast is basic, coffee and tea not fresh. The estate has no bar, so you tend to go to your room when arriving. The restaurant was closed during our stay, but the village has great restaurant at walking distance? The estate is great, but the service could be better.

Room tip: room without steps

Lots of steps to our quaint room . It was a lovely romantic setting for celebrating my birthday. Loved walking on the park like grounds and seeing the idyllic abode. Breakfast was good offering meats, Cheese, yogurt and yummy croissants with juices, tea and coffee all restocked at regular intervals. We also explored the nearby towns and overall enjoyed ourselves

We have just returned from an overnight stay at Hotel Landgoed Oldruitenborgh, and I can't wait to go back and stay in this hotel for longer and explore the area more. We were exceptionally lucky with the weather, but even so, this hotel is an oasis of peace and quiet with a olde world gentility about it. The service from the moment we arrived was friendly and efficient.

Our room, which faced out over the back area of the hotel was quiet, spotlessly clean and quirky with steps leading down into the room. The shower was excellent as was the bathroom, and the beds were supremely comfortable.

This is NOT a hotel for anyone who has mobility problems as there is not lift, and like many Dutch buildings, the stairs are steep.

We had a glorious evening meal, my husband had the surprise menu, and I had one from the menu. The food was perfect. Tasty, well presented and decent portions. The breakfast was all you can eat, with plenty of choice.

There seems to be plenty to see and do in the area, but we were not there long enough to be able to comment on this aspect, although we did visit the tourist village of Giethoorn which was about a 30 minute drive away, which is well worth seeing.

I would recommend this hotel to any person visiting the area, it is a treasure.
