It's almost hard to nail what's so great about Isla Hayahay. The food was terrific, the tour (and tour guide) were great, and the location serene. However, it was the overall friendly and thoughtful atmosphere that impressed us the most. There was none of the fuss and confusion that seems to plague even expensive resorts- everything was just right.

Big thanks to Paul for making the end of our Philippines visit the most memorable.

We decided to stay at Isla Hayahay after reading the reviews in tripadvisor and we booked a package for 3 nights which included Bohol sightseeing, snorkeling and island hopping. After staying amidst the concrete jungle of Hong Kong for a couple of years we were looking forward to a relaxing experience close to nature in Philippines. I am glad that both my choices, first to go to the fresh green country-side of Bohol and to stay in Isla Hayahay proved to be an immense success! Paul and Ara are two fantastic hosts. Ara received us at Tagbilaran airport. The resort is located in a small island called Pangangan which is connected through a wetland. The look of the resort is nice, it is in a very rural setting. We had a nice experience during our evening walk around the locality. The place seemed safe and people were friendly. The staff at the resort were courteous. The room was reasonable sized and had all very basic things, the bathroom was big. Star attraction of the stay was the food! It was simply awesome! From crabs, jumbo prawns to Indian style Dal Roti...it was an amazing treat for 3 nights adjacent to the crystal clear water under the dark blue sky! The sight seeing experience was smooth and very enjoyable. We had tremendously enjoyed the island hopping. There was picnic lunch. Our companions were so nice and friendly and the islands were so romantic! For example there was this tiny strip of sand and tones in the middle of the sea...and had a picnic on that...the overall experience was excellent. Certainly those were the best times of our 8 day tour of Philippines. Highly recommended!

We stayed 4 nights at Isla Hayahay and it more than exceeded our expectations. We booked by email and had a prompt response including a further email giving us the ferry times from Cebu (where we were) and the cost to expect for transport from the pier. The rooms are clean and bright with a nice little terrace outside. The rooms and grounds are all well maintained and the care given shows every day when you see the staff trimming hedges, brushing the decking and raking the sand.

We didn't snorkel or go on any of the tours (due to laziness) but other guests who did seemed to really enjoy them and Paul, the owner, gave us plenty of information so we knew what we could do if we chose to. There are plenty of places to sit looking out over the water either to chat with the owners or other guests or just to relax more privately and enjoy the view of the peaceful bay and to watch the local fishermen.

The restaurant and bar were reasonably priced and the food was superb. I had the crab curry which was the best meal I have had in years and I thought the balance of seasoning and flavour in the simple egg mayo sandwich typified the care and attention to detail they put in to everything. There is also free water and tea and coffee available in the communal sitting area which is a nice touch.

Wifi was quick and efficient in the public areas and I was also able to access it from the terrace of our room (which I'd been told not to expect).

The staff were lovely, quiet with the guests but always around to help if needed, with big smiles. They all seemed to take great pride in making sure the place looked its best and that guests were cared for. The owners gave us a lift back to the pier when we left which was really going the extra mile as were happy to get a taxi/trike.

We really could not fault Isla Hayahay. It does not sell itself as a luxury establishment but for the price the rooms, location and the service are excellent value. Would wholly recommend it.

We stayed at Isla Hayahay for 3 nights in February. The place itself was very nice especially the back dining area leading out into the water (although half of the decking was being replaced). The rooms were large, very basic and clean (airconditioned). If you're looking for luxury, this is not the place to go to. Basic means you get a hard bed and a small TV but you also can borrow books & watch a DVD in the common area (we never did).

We were picked up by the driver at the port & dropped off by Paul at the airport. We also did the day tour to some of the tourist places like Chocolate Hills, Blood Compact site, the underground cave and the tour along the Lomboc River. We stayed an extra day and found out that we didn't really have anything else to do so probably a 2 day stay would have sufficed.

The food was cheap and very delicious - especially the dinners!! The young staff were also very helpful and an asset to the place. The only thing that put me off is probably the 6% we had to pay on top of the bill because I paid by VISA card. I'm pretty sure that wasn't in any hard copy anywhere...

We thoroughly enjoyed our 4 day/3 night package. From the time we were picked up at Tubigon until we left we were looked after by the wonderful staff, service was excellent, food beautiful and accommodation comfortable. The package was very good and included transfers, accom and all food. Only one thing we felt was needed and that was somewhere to swim. No pool and waterfront unsuitable for swimming, otherwise a lovely place to stay.

Room Tip: all rooms are similar, lower numbers closer to the waterfront
