Just got back from Borneo which included a stay at Gaya Island resort and just wanted to say what an amazing place it was. The facilities are top quality and the staff are more than friendly, they would go the extra mile and beyond to make you feel welcome and give you that more personal feeling. I can completely recommend it and would love to go back one day.

After a week in the jungle we had a 6 night stay at Gaya Island and loved every minute. We were, of course apprehensive having a read reviews, however, I can say with certainty that I cannot relate to any of them what so ever. Cyril and his dedicated staff did everything they could to make the stay a memorable one - and it certainly was that.

The setting is beautiful, in a peaceful bay with a perfect balance of both relaxation with plenty of sun loungers (both at the hotel and private beach)
activities including the Tavajan Trek, Kayaking in the mangroves, snorkeling and a special mention to the sunset cruise - an absolutely fantastic experience where we were made to feel extra special.

The villas are gorgeous & comfortable set in a jungle environment with fantastic views.

The food is delightful, every morning we had a lovely blend of local and western cuisine, all washed down with Erik's wonderful freshly made juice.
Lunch at the pool bar was awesome, always served promptly with a smile.
Dinner was sublime no matter where you went - the quality of food here was extremely good

The staff are all amazing and can't do enough for you. With Cyril the Resort Manager at the helm the staff are working tirelessly to ensure all guests have the best experience. We especially must mention Erik in the Restaurant who was always friendly and extremely helpful & made mealtimes very pleasant and Lam and Joyce on reception who handled our queries promptly and professionally, always with a smile ensuring customer satisfaction is a priority. All the staff were welcoming, dedicated and provide an outstanding service

Worth noting we also used the gym which was adequate for our needs.

After dinner each day we went back to the bar for some superb cocktails again all served with a smile.

For anyone considering booking I would really encourage you ... its an unique, amazing and luxurious experience!

We spent 15 nights touring Borneo to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary with the final 5 nights at Gaya.

It was great place to relax and unwind in some luxury after magical experiences elsewhere in Borneo. We also received a complimentary massage which was incredible.

Our room (812) was beautiful and set up high with great views from the balcony to the see and KK in the distance.

The food was great and as well as the main restaurant we ate in the Teppanyaki and Fishermans Cover Restaurant. Both were excellent and we celebrated our anniversary at the Fisherman's Cove. The views are, I imagine, great - unfortunately there was a big storm that night and the blinds required to keep the wind and rain out!

The resort is surrounded by primary rainforest so the areas you can explore on your own are understandably limited although we did go on a guided nature walk and there was a more strenuous guided walk available to the private beach.

We also took the short boat trip to the marine centre and met Covid the turtle. Hopefully he, or she, will eventually be released back into the wild. Scott's dedication and passion to his work is clearly evident.

As with all resort hotels of this nature you are slightly cut off and whilst you do gain an essence of Borneo it was not the same as other locations we visited. For a few days of luxury and relaxation I would highly recommend the Gaya Resort although I would also recommend including as part of a wider tour to experience a lot more of what Borneo has to offer.

We have just got back from a 7 night stay at Gaya Island and loved every minute. We were, of course apprehensive having a read a reviews, however, I can say with certainty that I cannot relate to any of them what so ever. Cyril and his dedicated staff did everything they could to make the stay a memorable one - and it certainly was that.

The setting is wonderful, nested into a peaceful bay and away from any sense of 'reality'. There is the perfect balance of both relaxation with ample sun loungers (both at the hotel and private beach) and activities including the Tavajan Trek, Kayaking, snorkeling and craft workshops. A special mention to the sunset cruise is needed - an absolutely fantastic experience where we were made to feel extra special. Worth noting we also used the gym which was adequate for our needs.

The food is delightful, every morning we had a lovely blend of local and western cuisine, all washed down with Erik's wonderful freshly made juice.

Lunch at the pool bar was awesome - a cuttlefish salad was a favorite of ours, always served promptly with a smile

Dinner was sublime no matter where you went, we would certainly recommend Fisherman's Cove - the quality of food here was comparable with any top london restaurant!

After dinner each day we went back to the bar for some superb cocktails from Laila which we enjoyed with people we had met earlier in the day during activities / dinner.

A huge thank you to Cyril and his team for this experience and for anyone considering booking I would really encourage you ... its an unique, amazing and luxurious experience!
