Took a right turn off the main road on our way to Oswestry for Easter weekend. Where only wanting a drink but the special board enticed us.
Husband had Creamed Veg Root soup....mmmmm
I had a small fish and chips....not small at all. The batter was so light and the fish soft and tasty.
He had chocolate torte with pistachio crumb and amaretto biscuit base...so glad the waiter brought 2 spoons.
Great building, with wonderful log burner.
it appears they also have accommodation attached.
Surrounding area is stunning and it probably gets busy with locals ,but if you see it's sign on your way to or from Oswestry turn quick

So many people had recommended the Hanmer Arms to us but we hadn't had chance to get there until last weekend. We'd booked ahead for Sunday lunch as there were 6 of us and it's good job we did! It was heaving but the staff were calm and friendly and we were soon settled to enjoy a truly fantastic roast dinner. We shared a few nibbly bits to start - the rarebit and the whitebait and calamari, both were very tasty. The carvery however was out of this world - a huge amount of choice and everything was simply gorgeous. Fantastic roast potatoes and parsnips, mouth watering rare beef, juicy gammon and tender pork with the crispiest crackling and every sort of veg you could wish for, as well as an array of sauces. The yorkshire puds were as big as a plate and so light and fluffy we asked for the recipe! It was all just wonderful and we were stuffed to the brim. However we did manage to share a couple of puds - the Strawberries and Cream ice cream was beautiful and the treacle tart surprisingly light. The staff were all friendly, helpful and obviously took huge pride in their restaurant. We will definitely be back!

I cannot speak highly enough of the Hanmer Arms! We spent 2 nights here for a wedding weekend and our experience of the pub was simply wonderful! Matthew & Amy are very friendly hosts and they and all of their staff were most attentive and helpful.
The meal we had for about 21 people was superb and the varied dishes arrived hot, beautifully presented and delicious! The breakfasts too were fantastic! We really do recommend this lovely pub and restaurant. definitely 5 *****!

Haven’t been here for years and heard about the refurb so gave it a try.

My partner had beef and hooky pie which she reported as being really tasty however some pieces of steak were a little chewy and there were the odd bits of fat evident. I had the fish and chips. The fish was large and well cooked, initially I thought there could have been a few more chips but having said that the fish was so large I couldn’t have eaten more anyway! Mushy peas finished the dish with a pot of really nice home made tartare sauce. Too full for sweets we just went for a really nice freshly brewed filter coffee.

All in all we liked the trip, staff really friendly and chatty and we will return.
