If you want a relaxing, comfortable but basic place to stay the phare (bungalow) at Atuana Lodge is just the place to be. We had 2 weeks there and thoroughly enjoyed our time doing little but sleep, eat, read, swim and visit places on the island ( and then repeat it all again the next day)!
Gilles and Tuana are great and helpful hosts.
We were tempted to sell the house and just stay there until the money ran out....

Room tip: if you want the Hilton stay there, if you want a different experience stay here.

We spent 17 days on Moorea and our last 3 nights were here. It was a great way to wind down the trip. Nice and quiet, friendly owner, AWESOME food, and a cute dog. It was a nice little spot for just the two of us - even if it was a bit on the pricey side.

We had a fantastic stay here nothing was too much trouble, Pick up from the ferry or airport included. Tuana is a wonderful cook breakfast and evening meal and Gilles a perfect host. Location over looking the lagoon, Ideal for snorkelling and free use of kayaks, you are not far from the largest supermarket Champion on the island. Gilles is very knowledgeable with any questions you may have on Moorea and the activities available. We found that we were able to converse freely with him even though we do not speak French, Bravo Gilles. We stayed in the house and it was clean and cared for, if you want a great holiday look no further than AtuanA Lodge

Room tip: We stayed upstairs in a room over looking the lagoon, there was also a lovely room downstairs.

My wife and I stayed 5 nights at this private residence and we were extremely happy with our choice. Gilles and Tuana were the perfect hosts starting with a complimentary pickup at the ferry dock. We chose to stay in one of the rooms in the main house rather then in the bungalow and had the bedroom on the main floor with a great view of the ocean - slept every night with the doors open so we could listen to the sounds of the sea. The room was very nice and the walk in shower was great. Staying in the main house comes complete with breakfasts and dinners every day. The food was very good and excellently presented. Because this is an island in the middle of the ocean, expect lots of seafood and fruit. We rented a car for one day to see the island and we were able to get groceries for our lunches. The snorkeling was great and we even saw dolphins one day swimming by the beach. If you want a nice, relaxing place to stay in Moorea, we strongly recommend Atuana Lodge for your stay.

Room tip: Ask for the room on the main floor of the residence. Atuana Lodge does not take credit cards. You will need to wire the deposit and be prepared to pay the balance in cash upon arrival.

We wanted to live like the locals so that is what attracted us to the bugalow on this property. It is totally self contained in a gated propety overlooking a beautiful lagoon. The bungalow itself is pretty basic and takes a little while to get used to. To enter the kitchen or the commode from the bedroom you must go outside. They are both outdoors (not enclosed) at either sides of the bedroom. We brought a flashlight with us which was very helpful in the dark hours especially since the sun set at 6:00 pm. We didn't like turning on the outside lights incase anyone was walking on the property. There is not a livingroom area so you either had to sit in the kitchen or in the bedroom or outside at a table in the evenings. So there was't really a place to lounge. You must be careful not to leave any food products or any wet areas around the kitchen because it is like living outdoors so you will get bugs. The birds flew into the kitchen and stole or yummy french bread. From that time onward we put everything in the fridge.

We were supposed to have WiFi from the bungalow but it was not working and the TV only had 2 stations and of course they were in French. I brought my laptop to use my Nefflix for movies but without the internet that was not possible. So plan to eat late so you won't have these issues filling your evenings.

You do hear some road noise but it did not bother us at all. The best sleep we have had in a long time. Their dog Toscan was a wonderful watch dog. She laid outside our bedroom door on guard each night and kept us safe. lol

Gilles & Tuana were helpful in answering our questions but it would be helpful if you spoke a little French but we were able to communicate with them. Tuana is a wonderful chef and try to have at least one meal with them. My husband had the lobster & I had shrimp. I am not a fish lover at all but she did a wonderful job and I ate every bite.

Gilles was kind enough to pick us up at the ferry, brought us back to the bungalow and then drove us to the car rental place to pick up our car. You can arrange for your own car from Avis right across the street from the station, but Gilles got us a great price, about $150 less then we thought.

I can not say enough about the snorkeling just about 100 yards from the bungalow in pretty shallow water. It was our own private aquarium. The coral garden was amazing. We saw a Manta Ray, Moray Eel and more tropical fish then you can imagine.

Cons: The one thing that you will lack here, is if there are other guests, is privacy being that everything is out in the open and with the lights on at night in the kitchen you may feel like you are on display.
