My husband and I spent 6 nights at Ambergris Cay as a 50th birthday celebration. We just returned yesterday and I can't wait to go back. The resort is absolutely beautiful! Our bungalow was nicely appointed inside and out. The private pool, lounge chairs, beach chairs, and hammock offered a perfect, quiet place for relaxation. Before going back inside, rinse off in the amazing outdoor shower.
Ambergris provides such an elevated experience, it allows you to slow down, relax, and enjoy the breathtaking scenery. You can read a book on the beach for hours without seeing another guest. If you'd rather be social, there are activities to keep you entertained. We explored the island in our golf cart, took the boat to the "Hangover Bar," went snorkeling, had amazing massages, enjoyed food & drinks, and sat around the fire pit a few nights making conversation with people on honeymoon, anniversary, and family trips. We even enjoyed working out in the gym....how could you not with that view! There are tennis/pickle-ball courts if you'd like to play. Our schedule didn't line up to practice yoga on the top deck of the gym but if you're interested, be sure to ask your host to book a session for you.
The exceptional service sets Ambergris apart from any other all-inclusive we've visited. Everyone is incredibly kind and friendly, and they truly want you to have a great experience. Our host, Clemente, arranged our excursions and communicated plans via text. He magically appeared at breakfast or would send us a quick note to make sure we were enjoying our day.
I really can't say enough about our servers: Pedro, Jose, Miguel, Nicole, Frantz, Mikayla, Alejandro, Francinia - thank you for going above and beyond! We had so much fun chatting with each of you. Bartender Joslyn has such great energy, Giancarlos is a talented saxophonist, and Thaw makes a great Whales cocktail.
The front of the house staff greeted us with a smile every day and by our last day, some were even hugging us goodbye.
The marina staff were engaging as well. Captain Fish, Fancy, Cameron, Keith, John handled the boats professionally and had fun with guests while doing so.
I feel terrible that I can not remember their names but the two women at the spa were wonderful - I highly recommend the 90 minute massage.
Even the welcome center staff, Jonique, and pilots, Delano & Julian (?) were a pleasure to deal with. I must admit I was nervous about taking such a small plane from Provo to Ambergris but I am so happy that I did - our stay was completely worth it!
Two points I would like to mention for anyone who has read this far:
-Although Ambergris is not adults only, because of the low-key vibe and seclusion, this is not the best place for young families. There were a few children there during our stay but unless your kids are very well behaved and expectations are set, I would not recommend bringing them. ( ie This is not your typical all-inclusive with water slides and ice cream machines)
-There are two restaurants that alternate breakfast, lunch and dinner. The menu changes based on the day and even more so for holidays. There are plenty of beverages in your bungalow but food is only at Calico or the Clubhouse unless you pay for service to your bungalow (I would think the same for the cottages/villas).
I hope this review helped convince you to book this vacation - you will not be disappointed!
