“Retro kiwiana amazingness in an idyllic setting”
Reviewed 8 January 2017 for a stay in December 2016

We had the most amazing four night stay at Kissing Gate. It is a total gem, and such a quirky find. The bedroom caravan was super comfortable, the cooking facilities were great and the shower/toilet facilities were clean and the shower pressure was incredible!
Roger was a lovely host, very helpful, gave us plenty of advice for things to do locally and set us up with the onsite bikes so we could go for a wee adventure.
I would recommend in a heartbeat if you want a relaxing, quirky, romantic and beautiful setting for your getaway.

“Fantastic stay in a magical place!”
Reviewed 14 October 2016 for a stay in October 2016

Kissing Gate proved a fantastic choice to spent our 1 night away celebrating our wedding anniversary. Two beautifully restored caravans fitted with great eye for (vintage) detail and all luxuries one could possibly want in a very private, secluded bit of farmland among rolling hills and trees.
Great quality in everything; from the bed to the kitchen and equipment, the fresh eggs waiting for us, warm water in the outside bath on a deck over the pond (frog chorus provided at night)... perfect in every possible way.

Contact with Roger was excellent; starting with a very informative and welcoming email.

Highly recommended for everyone enjoying a private, secluded space in a beautiful natural environment.

“One of a kind place!”
Reviewed 29 April 2016 for a stay in April 2016

Roger and Adele were great hosts. They have created an amazing and special place in Kissing Gate! Such a personal and one-of-a-kind experience, we only wish we could have stayed longer. The place was spotless and was well equipped. The outdoor bath was a hit!

“Comfortably alternative, alternatively comfortable!”
Reviewed 27 April 2016 for a stay in March 2016

Kissing Gate was a lovely little secluded place, and a great place to put our feet up and stay somewhere a bit alternative while still being very comfortable. We loved all the little "rooms" - a perfect spot available for any time of day or weather. We had kingfishers, ducks & frogs in the pond. Our days were spent sleeping in and lazing on the deck chairs, interspersed with trips on the bikes to the wharf and along the trail. Definitely recommend Jesters Cafe, which was fantastic fun - all adults should also explore the playground under the trees. Thankyou for being such excellent, obliging and helpful hosts Roger and Adele!

Thanks for the lovely review! I am glad that you relaxed in 'quirky and luxury' Kissing Gate. We have now installed a big outdoor fireplace for sitting in front of to watch the stars - or is it better to lie in the outdoor bath for that? Such a dilemma! Call in next time you are tramping over this way - the Sabine/D'Urville/Travers circuit in Nelson Lakes National Park is superb.

“Blissful Bathtimes & Some Restful R&R To Be Had”
Reviewed 30 March 2016 for a stay in March 2016

Quite simply this is a gorgeous little hideaway which has been shaped by owner's Adele and Roger.

Upon arriving we were greeted by a wonderful mixture of rustic "pieced together" charm (pretty wooden shack with kitchen/ bathroom facilities), combined perfectly with vintage holiday outdoor style (2 classic caravans, each with a different function), and all successfully adorned with a layer of plush cosy comfort (cushions, linen, and bath under the stars).

The accommodation itself was wonderful, but made so much more so thanks to genuine friendly hospitality and customer service:
- Despite marketing Kissing Gate to couples (there is a pond on site which isn't suitable for playing children), Adele and Roger were thoughtful and massively understanding when my wife and I asked if we could bring our 6 month old son (not yet crawling).
- Also, they had plenty of recommendations for local restaurants/ shops/ sights to experience, and I advise any future guest at Kissing Gate to take to time to have a chat with your hosts and seek their kind hospitality and advise.

I know we will when we return to this magical little spot :)

We are so glad that the hugely creative effort and love that went in to Kissing Gate has been appreciated so much by our guests since we opened a couple of months ago. Kissing Gate is a truly unique glamping experience and we are humbled by your comments. Last night Adele and I basked in front of the outdoors fireplace before luxuriating in the bath under the stars - magic! Thanks for staying Martin.
