Although I can't speak for the view by daylight, the view from Mount Victoria at night was stunning and a perfect vantage point to view fireworks from the main Auckland area. We found that by getting there early (about 2 hours before midnight) we managed to get a decent parking spot on the mount (although the best spots were taken a coupe hours before we arrived!). We found a beautiful spot to sit and eat our diner while looking over the city. The only point to I would advise is that if you are going to watch fireworks on the Mount a clear night is a must as I have heard that if the weather is slightly poor it will not be a good spot also to get out of the Davenport area could take the best part of an hour as there is only a main road leading in and out of the area - but the view from the Mount is totally worth it! At the bottom there are a decent amount of restaurants, shops, bars etc.

As everyone says the views are worth it. We walked over & up from the ferry which can be a little confusing (if you miss the signs). Views are well worth it and I would take the ferry to Devonport again just to go up Mount Victoria. The teenage kids liked exploring the fort and cannon too!

An ideal spot to take visitors to Auckland for its sweeping views opf the harbour and the city. A great spot for watching regattas or firework displays. Lots of space for children or dogs to run. Great for picnics.

Mount Vic is one of the fifty or so volcanoes on which is built. It's completely free to visit the reserve, though weekends might be a bit busy, making parking difficult. It's not much of a climb unless you have health issues that prevents any sort of activity, so you can park at the bottom and walk up if driving to the top isn't your thing.
