Called in to the Patriot, Devonport for a drink and ended up staying for some food. Even though it was winter in NZ it was warm and sunny so we sat at a table outside. Thankfully we had a parasol so when we did have a brief shower, we stayed dry.

We had the local beer (Galbraith) and we tied the green lipped mussels. Great. Bigger and stronger than we get at home. More like a thin steak really. Cooked in a garlic sauce with home made bread - wonderful.

Went TO Auckland for the day and drove to Devonport, while walking around we came across this little gem. Asked inside if we could fine they said sit outside be there in a minute , this was the only disappointment they forgot and came out about 15 minutes later , from there service was great , steaks were amazing and cooked to perfection. Good pricing around $30 for main. Highly recommend the 250gm Fillet. Hope you enjoy

This is a great place for a meal and that English Pub feel on Auckland's North Shore. We both had the signature pie, that was crammed with filling and covered with a light pastry. There a lots of great dishes on the menu, and a good range of beers. We had the Boddingtons, a fab taste of England. They have the fire going and we are heading there on Sunday for the roast dinner with Yorkshire pudding. The manager is from Liverpool and is friendly and very helpful. This is a must place to visit in Devonport.

This is just a brilliant little spot! Originally the BNZ building in Davenport there are very clear reminders but it gets better. I can imagine any Brit feeling either a bit homesick or wanting to support while far away, would be at home here. As well as the ex Bank memorabilia (the safe door as you walk in) it is the poetry and sayings that bring character (the longest name in Welsh; Irish and Scottish proverbs) and so. Upstairs; downstairs or the beer garden look for the hidden gems. As for the food and staff - top notch. If this is your local - don't let on too much!

We came to Devonport for the day and spotted the nice pub whilst on our island tour. I had a pint of the best cider ever and a Ploughmans lunch. The Ploughmans was good except for the processed ham. A piece of thick cut ham would have been preferred. My husband had a tasty fish dish. Good service and a pleasant setting.
