“Guided tour was nice”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 August 2011

It's interesting to see a bit of desert in a landscape otherwise dominated by vineyards and orchards. We took one of their guided walks through the desert and learned quite a bit about this disappearing and fragile landscape. I would suggest going early in the day if you visit in the summer as it gets hot and there is little shade.

“Eco-friendly Desert Centre - Great Information Source!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 August 2007

August 2007 - Osoyoos, BC

We took in one of the evening tours (7:00 pm) at the Desert Centre just outside of Osoyoos (NW of town). This is a non-profit facility the provides a terrific education and a chance to see the desert up close from the 'safety' (for both human and desert creatures) of a raised boardwalk. Tours are guided or self-guided (I recommend the guided tour for the value for money aspect).

The tour is about 1 hour long and it winds through 60 acres of Canada's only true desert. The main building also houses displays featuring local animals, birds and insects.

What a great way to spend a warm desert evening. At the end of July, they host "Romancing the Desert" which combines a wine tasting evening with tours of the site.
