All of Kananaskis is fantastic and worth the sidetrip. The limestone peaks of Cananaskis country are amazing accents to a beautiful valley.

We enjoyed a 3 km hike around one side of the lake. It's a hike that rewards you with stunning breath taking views. But make sure you USE SUNSCREEN and have a hat with good head and face covering. The sun is brutal hot and there are NO places for respite from it. There are no sandy beaches, so rocks and more rocks are what the shore consists of. The water is too cold for swimming but we dipped a toe when we could actually get close enough to the water. There are no washroom facilities except at each parking lot, and depending on how fast you walk, that could be anywhere from 1.5 hrs to 3 hrs in between. We didn't see a single picnic table the whole hike and only one or two memorial benches along the way (also situated in the blistering heat.) The only way you can acquire any shade at all to enjoy a lunch is to go into the bushes where you may encounter bears. It was an enjoyable day but we wanted to write a review that actually told people about some of the cons. There are many many pros, and people have told everyone about them. This may have once been a little known spot, but first thing in the morning, both parking lots were full already and there was a constant stream of people. Seemed very busy to me. Next time we attempt this lake we will maybe use a boat. I thought that motor boats weren't allowed on this lake, but there were several over last weekend. Curious if there are fish in there. At least by boat and a little trolling motor. one can visit all sides of the lake. Maybe finding a shady spot sometimes? Doubtful! To sum this up. It was nice to visit. But will prob approach it much differently in the future.

We stopped here on our drive and enjoyed the beautiful view. It was VERY windy the day we stopped. On a calm day, you can get a great picture with the reflection of the mountains in the background.

Incredible mountain and lake views. We were at Interlake where we walked across the dam and saw both the lower and upper lake. Lots of hiking opportunities around the area!

This drive hands down was our favorite of the trip. Take the back way up passed Spray Lakes you will see lots of wildlife. Upper Kananaskis lake was breathtaking. The lower lake wasn't as pretty as the top.
