Well worth the short drive up. The lake has beautiful views right from the picnic spots close to the parking lots or from the family friendly beach walks on either side of the dam. There are longer trails around the lake, we didn't do them but heard a group of hikers having to scare away a bear on the trail not far from the picnic site. As with all areas in the park come prepared and always be on the look out.

The whole loop around the lake is around 15 km but is fairly flat and even the ups and downs aren't too dramatic. The lake itself is gorgeous and the surrounding mountains were reflected in the clear and still water. Dogs are welcome on leash (and honestly, no one seemed to mind if they weren't on leash). Fairly well-traveled, even on a Tuesday, but not too busy. Weekends could be different. Avoid using Hwy. 742 - it's bumpy gravel for 60 km!

This lake was created to generate power, and it's a lovely spot even on an overcast day. It wasn't our favorite lake we saw in our 10-day stay, but worth the drive to get there from Canmore.

An amazing hike around the lake its about 16kms all the way round and can be done easily in a day , not much elevation gain but take my advise go anticlockwise around the lake on a hot day to avoid the hot sun in the afternoon. ample parking from 2 main parking lots , take bug spray and bear spray and a good amount of drinking water and most importantly your camera stunning views all the way round.

All of Kananaskis is fantastic and worth the sidetrip. The limestone peaks of Cananaskis country are amazing accents to a beautiful valley.
