“Gorgeous Views”

International Selkirk Loop
Reviewed 4 September 2016 via mobile

Absolutely beautiful! Allow more time than you think you will need because speed limits are very low (60-80 kph on the eastern portion and 80-90 kph on the western portion). But you don't want to speed through it anyway, right?! Pull out and enjoy the lake and river overlooks. Stop and have some ice cream at one of the many country stores along the way. We had hoped to take a couple of the extra side loops, but just ran out of time.

We took a week and did 3 of the side trips and parts of a 4th. Each corner turned brought more stunning scenery and warm people. Something for just about everyone, as long you don't expect the Ritz Carlton or Four Seasons.

I'm so happy I found out about this gem! I rode the portion between Creston to Kootenay Bay took the ferry and went from Balfour to Nelson. The scenery is amazing, the road is well maintained and traffic was almost non existent as it was a week day. Although not part of this loop, the stretch between Nelson to Kaslo is equally delightful, even though I got rained out.

Spectacular scenery on this loop which is billed as one of North America's most scenic routes. Take the side trips with beautiful lakes and rivers. Not to mention the wildlife depending on the time of year. Fantastic and adventurous!
