We were in Room 1, luxurious with low (padded) beams, two extra bunk beds if you needed them and a view over the South Downs. Nice long bath with separate shower cubicle. Slight drawback - antique key broke in the door, but it still opened!
Dinner with friends did not disappoint - praise for mussels, crab cakes and fish and chips. Venison a bit of a chew and maybe smaller slices needed and better done.
Great breakfast and helpful staff. Morning papers are supplied. Great centre for walking or cycling the South Downs Way, visiting Uppark or Goodwood. A very well run place. We shall go back.

We stayed here for 2 nights & had 2 rooms while attending a Wedding close by . Rooms 3 & 5 both were in the Annex block and both rooms were large & of a very high standard and very clean throughout ,and had everything we needed even robes .We all enjoyed our full English Breakfasts and Evening meal , our steaks were superb !! We loved the pub and it's rustic Oldy Worldy charm ,candles everywhere and an open fire . Just lovely esp in Winter .We will return, if we are ever in the area again .
Just a few tiny things could have made our stay even more perfect !! But please don't take this as complaining . Our room was cold on arrival 3pm and had to ask for heating when it still wasn't on by 5.30pm . This was immediately dealt with and it was then cozy within mins of asking for the duration of our stay . So perhaps the times need looking at maybe .I't so nice to arrive to a warm room esp in Winter . I would also loved to have seen just a few cheaper choices on the food menu perhaps a lasagna or pie for £10 maybe ?? My elderly Mother was not happy to pay £ 13.5O for fish and chips or a burger !
It would have been good to see a warning sign near the radiator in the bathroom s both my husband and my Mother commented on how hot it was and both had touched it in passing and yelped . (different rooms ) My husband then turned them down a little . Also the hot water in the sink was scalding hot and I mean scalding ,again maybe just the temperature needs turning down a little . The young lady who greeted us and checked us in was lovely and welcoming ,however the young man who served us on the Wed evening & Thursday morning at breakfast, although most efficient in his work it has to be said ,was not exactly friendly or welcoming , and a smile even if it's just occasionally really does go along way esp from a Waiter ! Staff changed again on our last day Fri am, and it felt better at breakfast on that day . So to summarize would we all stay again. Yes 100% !! Book it .

Found this gem on the way down from London to Portsmouth after viewing the rooms available in 2 other properties of similar price locally, and found them sadly lacking ( see other reviews)
We were welcomed by the lovely Sophie, who gave us a very warm welcome and showed us to a delightful and very tastefully furnished room at the rear of the pub. It appeared to have been extensively refurbished recently with no expense spared, and had many thoughtful "touches" which are lacking in many hotels.
Ate in the restaurant and had an excellent meal accompanied by some great local beer.
After a great night's rest, the breakfast offer was extensive and very well cooked.
Nothing too much trouble from all of the staff [in particular Sophie] and I would not hesitate to recommend the White Hart to anyone, and could not fault it in any way. It is a perfect example of how a Country Pub/Restaurant/Hotel should be run.
Will definitely return if we are in the area again.

Dear Apwfkelly,

Thank you very much for the amazing review! I am very pleased to hear that Sophie has looked after you on your visit at The White Hart.

I am hoping that the scoring of 1 star for service, food and staff was just made in an error, but if there is anything that we should improve on, please do not hesitate to contact me directly at the pub on - 01730 825124.

And hopefully we will be able to welcome you back soon!
Best wishes

We diverted slightly off the South Downs Way for a much needed refreshment break after walking 12 of the 19 miles scheduled for day 2. We each had a pint & sourdough baguette, mine accompanied by a mug of soup. All were very tasty and 'hit the spot', allowing us to depart fortified for what lay ahead. Well worth the diversion.

We were walking the South Downs Way and arrived too early for lunch but sat by a fireplace and had a welcome pint. Very nice staff, and we enjoyed the local customers ("I'm trying to decide if it's a beer day or a cider day."). It was clear the pub is dog-friendly, which was great.

Dear Nomadventurer,

Thank you for your time to write this review!
I am so glad you enjoyed your visit here. Hopefully it will not be the last - we have 7 beautiful bedrooms, if you next time, maybe fancy a longer rest before your walk!

Kindest regards
