I have stayed in a number of Holiday Inn Express hotels in the past, but was slightly disappointed with this one, although this is probably not entirely the fault of HIE.
Location is very close to the spectacular Temple Meads station. However it is not where it is marked on Google maps but on the opposite side of the road Temple Gate. Arrival at the hotel by car is a bit of a nightmare! There are long term major road works on the Bristol inner ring road, including Temple Gate and you cannot stop a car outside the hotel entrance, but you have to drive around the back into a rather seedy loading bay and then enter the hotel via a tiny, locked - unless you have a hotel key - back door. Parking of vehicles is in an unpleasant multi story car park behind the hotel (you need a key code from the hotel, everything is via locked barriers). You are charge £12 for parking in one of the HIE allocated parking places - and there are only 20 of these.
Reception was efficient enough, although we were not greeted in the usual warm way and the reception staff could not initially find my booking. Also the reception staff could not help at all in answering my query about getting a bus to Bristol Cathedral - in fact the bus departed from immediately outside the hotel door!
The lift to the sixth floor was very noisy, creakily and vibrated rather violently - so much so that my wife commented "should we use the stairs in future?"
Once in the room, things were much better. A good size with a comfortable bed and decent bathroom. There was desk, television and coffee/tea making facilities - and if you ran out of tea/coffee/milk etc, there further supplies could be obtained from reception.
Our room was quiet and we had a very good nights sleep.
The view from our room looked out to the Somerset hills in the distance, We were on the top (6th) floor. However if you were on a lower floor, I suspect the view would only be of the unpleasant concrete multi story car park. Rooms on the other side of the corridor would have views to the Temple Meads station.
Breakfast is supplied in the reception area and was good with cereal, yoghurt and fruit available, together with several hot items (sausage, bacon and scrambled egg). Eat as much as you can. I did like the facility to produce your own breakfast to take away - baps for the sausage and bacon together with bags to wrap up your takeaway meal.

Stayed at the hotel over the bank holiday weekend. Check in was efficient. Krystyna was really nice and gave us some sightseeing ideas. The room was clean and very quiet. Room temperature was perfect. Breakfast was pretty good and filling. Arriving or departing by train the hotel location is great.

We were flying into Bristol very early Satuday morning for a wedding and we arrived before check in and needed somewhere to get changed! Zoe and the other reception staff were fantastic sorting us out a room at 9am and offered us a coffee while we waited. This made the whole day run smoothly and we couldn't be more grateful.
The room was really nice and very clean, the staff were all lovely and the free breakfast in the morning was really good with lots of choice. Would absolutely recommend this hotel for anyone visiting Bristol - great place in a great location! Straight across from Temple Meads train station.

Arrived very late at night, so being 30 seconds from the station is great, check in was quick and easy.

The room itself was nice, clean with a very comfortable bed and brilliant AC. The only issue I had was the shower gel not much comes out when you press it.

I had room 515 which faces out to the back of the hotel and was extremely quiet so maybe ask for a back facing room if you are a light sleeper and fancy a lie in as the road out front seems very busy.

Breakfast was actually very nice, with a small selection of hot items (sausage, bacon, scrambled eggs, beans) and a continental selection.

Check out was quick and easy and could leave a bag while I went for a meeting.

All the staff were great and very friendly. I would definitely stay again.
