A little off the beaten track but went there on recommendation. A fine selection of ales and international beer ( especially Belgium) makes this a place to test most palates. Simple decor and no nonsense fittings gives the Maypole a feel of days gone by...and all the better for it. A relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff and good quality beer gives this a near perfect score.

We have eaten a few times at the Maypole: the range of beers is fantastic, the landlord knows what he's talking about and the food is very good. We then found out that they have started doing Sunday lunches: really good.

Tip: you need to book a table (probably weekday evenings, too) as it gets very busy.

This is a family run pub and has a superb selection of beers. On looking at the menu we expected standard pub fare, but it turned out to be much more than that. The vegetarian lasagne was gorgeous and the wild boar burger with Stilton delicious. It was peaceful and cosy on a wet night. Thanks!

We went to the Maypole on Saturday lunchtime, the pub was busy but, not crowded. Clean tables, not sticky, good service with an Italian bias on the menu. I choose the Meatball and Mozzarella Ciabatta, sliced tasty meatballs and sauce, washed down with one of many beers & lagers available. My wife had the Boscaiola, smoked bacon, tomatoes, mushrooms and peas. She ordered the small portion which was plenty. Our daughter had the Lasagne, again well cooked, a good size portion on a plate, not in a dish, with a side salad.
In summary the food was good, the beer very good, nice clean pub, clean toilets & very prompt service. No ping from a microwave, proper tasty home cooked food, recommended.

Not coming back. The barman was rude and they have awfully pretentious menu of pints. I don't think I'm coming back.
