What a delightful boutique bed and breakfast! Liz (our energetic and creative hostess and owner of this fine establishment) greeted us at the door and helped us up to our room. We were in the Wellington, twin beds for my adult daughter and I on on mom/daughter trip to England. The building was owned by the current Duke of Gloucester when HE went to Cambridge in the 70's, hence the name. Cleverly decorated, with abundantly comfortable bedrooms, lovely bathrooms and a spectacular sitting room downstairs. Located literally minutes away from the University, the HopOnHopOf bus, and the long distance buses that we later took to Oxford. The breakfasts were ENORMOUS with very flavorful eggs, grilled mushrooms and grilled tomatoes, lots of choices of cereals to go with the delicious 9that means not too sweet) yogurt. Paul, her able assistant, even fixed us up with a nice cuppa before we left after our last morning journey into town for one more bit of shopping. What a great palce...I will certainly be back here some time.

Room Tip: Narrow but easy stairs for upper floors, if you have mobility problems

My wife and I spent two nights at the Duke House and enjoyed it immensely. Very pleasant room, wonderful breakfast and accommodating owner/staff. Easy walk to everything in downtown Cambridge. Nice pub just down the street for a quick dinner. Bus for train station nearby or take a short 6 - 8 pound cab ride to train station.

Recommended to us by a guide for its location, the Duke House is a short walk from the National Express Bus stop and also central to the town of Cambridge. Facility is cozy and a good place to stay, as we did for a couple of nights. Our room, Kent, entered from an adjoining door to the main house entrance, accessed from the sidewalk. Be aware that this room is upstairs, but spacious enough for comfort. Ensuite bathroom was recently updated.

The adjacent main house has a comfortable sitting room and a particularly nice dining room. Locally sourced foods are served for breakfast, well cooked and generously provided. A nice glass of milk was available in the evenings. Street on which the Duke House is located is quiet, yet walking distance to the center of town and the many colleges (31 in all). If coming by train, it would be best to take one of the many cabs outside the station for the 10 minute, 6 GBP ride here.
