Usually you can depend on Pizza Express - you know exactly what you’re getting. However, it’s a while since we’d eaten there and we were shocked at how standards seemed to have slipped. The food was really greasy - we had olives, bruschetta and an antipasti plate to share followed by a couple of pizzas and a mixed salad - far too much for two people. The quality of the food was poor - both bruschetta and pizzas had a greasy quality I’ve never seen in Pizza Express before and the mixed salad was so drowned in an acidic dressing as to be inedible. Thankfully they didn’t charge us for this. But, sadly, the food as a whole was so disappointing that we won’t be back.

The staff weren't at all helpful when I showed them a voucher I had been emailed, which they said could not be used at the restaurant, which started the lunch on a bad footing. The food was slow to arrive, waiting staff seemed miserable and there was no ambience at all. The food was average, but badly overpriced. Never again!

We've been coming to this PizzaExpress on and off for 20 years. Food is now consistently good again, but the prices have risen so much in the past few years that it isn't at all competitive, unless of course you use one of the many online vouchers (2 for £10, or starter and a main for a lower price); with vouchers for 2 mains and soft drinks you'll pay £20, saving approx £10. The current chefs are good and are cooking pizzas as they should be - not soggy (anyone who has eaten true pizzas in Naples will appreciate this!). The food quality is better than others in the city. Staff were friendly, but there wasn’t enough for a lunchtime rush, one waiter dealing with nine full tables. However, this gorgeous building is not being looked after - the outside planting is all dead and looks dreadful - not a good impression. Inside it's worse: paint is peeling and there is general grubbiness on the walls of the conservatory room, damp coming through in patches needing replastering and some of the antique mirrors are damaged. They haven’t updated the WCs, they are dated and tired. None of these issues are difficult to fix, so you have to ask, why management would let it get into such a state? Great pizzas, poor interior in need of urgent refurb either by PE or their landlord.

I don't know if Pizza Express are running the lease down at Jesus lane branch but having used the restaurant for many of years the state of the restrooms and overhaul cleanness of this establishment is falling well below a standard that you expect
The staff are so grumpy and made us feel really uncomfortable while dining
Do they know the lease is up or is there just lack of management
Have added a photo of our water jug. judge for your self
Foods always ok but service & standards are zero

Normally I wouldn't review a chain place, but it's worth knowing if you're in the city centre and looking for a place with lots of seating and just slightly out of the way that this isn't a bad choice. US tourists will find the 'American' pizza pretty familiar, and tourists from anywhere will enjoy the beautifully appointed, large space. It gets loud really quickly--that's the price you pay for the mirrored walls and tiled ceilings--but is lovely, and the staff are accommodating.
