Ted Coney's Family Portraits

For the smallest of entry fees you can spend a very enjoyable hour entering the fascinating world of Ted Coney. For those of you that might worry that you will have to purchase a work of Art rest assured you wallets will not be under threat. Ted is an artist who has no intention of selling you his works, you would not be allowed to purchase any exhibit - he paints because he has to - and the work is a visual diary of the important and trivial aspects of his life.
This experience is a small scale version of the Culture Show or South Bank Show only far more entertaining. There is a choice of themed tours so you can visit more than once and have a different experience and we intend to go again.
The only man to have called out the AA to the nave of Ely Cathedral!!!

If you're visiting Ely, Ted's exhibition is a must. Ted guides you round his home which is a captivating treasure trove of artwork. We even saw the painting he was working on and heard about his painting methods. Ted is so inspiring, enthusiastic and welcoming. I really recommend a visit.

An enjoyable and thought provoking journey through the life of Ted and his family told through a variety of mixed media artworks. Ted gives a spirited and interesting account of his artworks and his inspiration over the many years that he has been working with different media. The tours, (I believe there are nine) are themed and every individual will find some aspect that resonates with their own life and experience. A wonderful opportunity to interact with the artist as you are guided through his delightful house where the artworks are displayed. Well worth a visit!

Ted Coney's pop-up exhibition really makes art come alive! Your guide is the artist himself, his subject his family across the generations, directly portrayed or more often providing the inspiration for a piece of work in a wealth of different formats and media. Shared journies with friends too -including those made on a venerable bicycle, an integral part of the exhibition - take their place at the heart of this collection. And once visited, you can return too, both to see ongoing work in progress and to take another of a number of equally personal routes around the art work.

This is a little gem down by the waterside of one of the UK's best tourist attractions that is Ely. Ted's tour of his 'pop-up' gallery is interesting and informative and a couple of hours well spent. What I really liked is Ted's enthusiasm and ability to communicate his knowledge in an interesting and captivating manner.
