Harbour was ok, quite a lot of boats and we could see over to St Michael's Mount. We visited a couple of gifts shops on the road side one like a double shop and I must say they person behind the till looked at us as if we had walked into her living room uninvited, not welcoming at all. We continued into the town centre, chain and independent shops but not what we expected, I expected more holiday kind of shops, something different. We did come across a couple of antique/retro shops that were crammed with items and enjoyed looking at all the nick nacks bit unfortunately we will not be visiting Penzance again.

We stayed a week at Penzance after moving over from our first week at St Ives. Although not “picture postcard pretty” this town has a really authentic feel to it & a rich working history that appealed to us. The harbour area is still functioning & is interesting to stroll around in the designated “public” areas. Look up towards the town & you will see the parish church dominating the skyline.

My husband and I popped into Penzance to browse the shops and walk around the harbour- short walk as the heavens opened. Car park at the harbour is a nightmare- firstly didn’t recognise my number plate and told to enter without ticket
We parked up and strolled around the harbour for a short walk before sheltering from the rain in a cafe in town. So sad to see many shops closed down and many shops now charity shops. We found a lovely jewellers like an Aladdin’s cave and so many lovely items both new and pre-owned. The owner is so helpful and could easily have spent more time browsing the various showcases. Both my husband and I found each other’s Christmas present and both beautifully wrapped.

There’s lots of boats moored in the harbour which we enjoyed looking at. There’s shops and cafes along the harbour too. There’s a good view of St Michael’s Mount on a clear day and a handy car park in the harbour.

Enjoyable walk around harbour from huge main car park end to viewpoint end. Plenty of leisure and fishing boats and ships to ogle. St Michael's Mount can be seen from the viewpoint at the other end away from the boats. Shops in town centre parallel to harbour side 2 minutes walk away. Main car park was so full many cars allowed in to be seen driving round and around for spaces. A train trip to Penzance is ideal as the railway station is also conveniently situated next to the harbour and town centre shops. Boat trips available but need to book in advance.
