As a family we have fallen for the charms of St Ives in Cornwall and very often take the October half term break there as the boys love the rough sea of Porthmeor beach.
On my way back to the car last year, a blue stable door caught my eye in the cobbled street between the town and beach, I picked up the business card and made an inquiry with Derek ( the Property owner) on the journey home. We booked a week in Flip Flops -Love lane, we choose this one in hope we may just, if we where really lucky, get a parking space!
All communications with Derek were great, he was very helpful.
We arrived on Saturday afternoon, unloaded our car in the square then parked up the hill, it was half term after all and if you have ever been to St Ives you will know what the parking is like!
The cottage was clean and tidy, and had everything we needed, the tea and scones on arrival was a lovely surprise. The cottage is perfectly situated between the beach and town, with the baker's down the hill and Norway stores up the hill and to you right.
The double bed was very comfortable lots of nice touches including a the hairdryer, and it was lovely to have our own bathroom. The bunk beds are more than adequate for my son (15). Not sure my 18 year old would have been so keen to sleep in the bunks but he could of used the sofa bed in the lounge. The Netflix was a nice extra, also all the beach gear, we used the body boards.
The internet was a god send, myself and my husband had some work to complete, and my son revised every afternoon for his mocks with all of us using the internet. In fact the cottage had everything we needed for our weeks stay.
I recommend the cottage to anyone, indeed any of the other cottage's Derek own's if they are as good as this one!
Now whilst your in St Ives, the surf school is great, the instructors are just fab. We would recommend the balancing eel for the fish and chips the wait is worth it. We found a fabulous burger bar called Blas up past the life boat station really delicious and we could take the dog in, and of course The Sloop the staff even smiled (!) I tried the Tandoori Hake on the specials Wow it was lovely!
My great find on this holiday was Tarquin's Cornish Gin served in the Beach Cafe Bar , if you like gin you will love this!
We will be back in St Ives soon and I will defiantly use Footstep Cottages again.

Flip Flops is a great little cottage, the location cannot be better. It is right in the middle of everything you would like access to in St. Ives-both major beaches, shopping, eating, etc. The ease of getting around St. Ives from the cottage was really important since we have a toddler. The upstairs bedroom is very large for a vacation rental and overall the cottage is a great size for a family (two bathrooms!). Having the courtyard is perfect for leaving out beach gear, drying towels, etc. The cottage is also well equipped and while the kitchen is not large it has everything you need, we had every breakfast and many lunches there during our stay. Parking is the only challenge, but this is inherent to St Ives. I would much prefer to stay at such a charming cottage as Flip Flops and walk a bit for parking, the location is really worth it. Lots of great food in St. Ives but I have to put in a word for The Hub-best burgers and pulled pork we've found in the UK! We also had ice cream at MooMaid almost every night! Book with confidence!
Flip-flops Cottage is a beautiful fishermans cottage situated down on of the little cobble streets that leads down to the shops and harbour. It has absolutely everything you need even down to windbreakers and chairs for the beach and cafetiere and a welcome cream tea! The view from the bedroom is lovely-the higgledy piggledy cottages with the cobbled lane and the sea in the distance-what more could you ask for?! All the bedding and towels provided are lovely and clean and the cottage is so welcoming! Would definitely recommend this cottage for a fantastic holiday!
