Visited for dinner on basis of TripAdvisor reviews.

Restaurant is pleasant with nice background music and ambience

On arrival greeting was underwhelming and not shown to our upstairs table just told where to go

Nice looking restaurant upstairs but seats are low so my wife borrowed a cushion to sit on .

Service was terrible . Had to ask to have our coats taken

Then waited ages for our dinner and had to try to get attention to get a drink

Eventually asked where our food was and it arrived without any sign of the ordered side dishes

Shame because the Cod and aubergine main courses were quite tasty.

This place has potential but needs to get its act in order.

Very disappointing evening

Beautiful balmy evening in late September. Dined upstairs with all the doors and windows open onto the balcony. I had a starter of crab and scallop gratin made into a main course with a portion of chips ( bit of a pig!). OH has a whole plaice which he said was delicious served with new potatoes. Side portion of Ruby chard which was well cooked but could have been hotter. A lovely meal in a great setting. Be back in the next few days!

Thank AV H

Lunch time in St Mawes - no idea where we were going to eat. The St Mawes Hotel had tables outside and it was sunny...
The menu looked interesting and the light bites appealed. The fishcake in chowder and the scallop and crab au gratin were exceptional...far better than we'd expected - and reasonably priced. Service was friendly and efficient. Brilliant. Thanks.

We have lunch in St Mawes Hotel three times
Each time great variety of well presented sea food
Great staff , really friendly , nice wine list and good ambience
To be honest preferred the food to their big sister Idle Rocks
Thank you
