My wife and I spent four nights in our campervan at this very nice, peaceful site in a beautiful setting. Facilities include a small shop, a café, launderette and toilets/shower facilities. The site is situated in the village of Lynbridge on the outskirts of Lynton. It is a very clean and well cared for site, albeit rather basic but still represents good value for money. If you have small children they would need to be very closely supervised as the site is adjacent to a stream in the lower part of the valley. On the down side, freeview TV reception was non-existent at the site until we were informed we would need to connect up to the post adjacent to our pitch which gave us an analogue signal, affording us six channels. The aerial connection cable was supplied to us free of charge from the shop which catered for most basic needs for campers. Be warned though, if you choose this site as your base and want to leave your camper/motorhome on site, Lynbridge is in a VERY hilly location. It took around 20 minutes to walk into Lynton but it was very tiring to do so. Lynton is very nice and the shops (those that were actually open) consisted mainly of tea/coffee shops, a Costcutters and one other small convenience store. Lynmouth is at the bottom of the extremely steep hill and is also worth a visit. We would recommend travelling on the famous cliff railway to get in and out of Lynmouth as the cliff walk is an absolute killer on the legs! As for the Sunny Lyn site, if you want a quiet, clean and affordable site, this could well be for you - but beware those steep hills!

Thank you so much for talking the time to review the site. You certainly seem to have found out why Lynton and Lynmouth are known as "England's Little Switzerland".

On the subject of the Televisions, most of Exmoor has little or no Freeview or Satellite signal. We do manage to get a basic analogue signal to the hook-ups but most visitors need to manually retune their televisions to pick up the 6 channels we provide. Mark you most people only want to catch up with the News and local weather forecast. We do provide, free of charge, an aerial to the pick up point.

We can also hand out free basic local maps of Lynton/Lynmouth and have a selection of locally printed walking maps.

We will be delighted to see you back again, complete with walking boots ready to try some of the other recommend walks

location good next to river but lost sun very early in the day. Kitchen inadequately stocked with implements. Very difficult to prepare a meal and only soft cloths supplied for washing dishes so impossible to clean effectively. Shower not working and after promising to get it working nothing was done. Every surface is plastic so felt more like a caravan than a lodge. However reasonably warm and comfortable. Difficult to regulate temperature and too hot for proper nights sleep.
Our personal experience was very bad since they took £25 out of our account without authorisation ( is this legal?) on the basis that they had 2 people working for 3 hours to clean. This is despite us spending an hour to clean before we left and we had only been there one day (2 nights). How could this be when we had supplied all our own bedding! We had already paid extra to have a dog ( a well behaved small parson russel) but because we had left a ball on a shelf they said that they had to sterilise everything! They also accused us of smearing a toilet. Surely, we were allowed to use the toilet and it could hardly be our fault if their flush is not effective. There were signs saying that we would be charged for using abrasive cleaners that might cause scratching and only soft wipes were supplied so we couldn't remove difficult baked-on stains. We felt that this was a case of entrapment and their business model depends on taking extra money for made-up reasons. Not to be trusted !

On arrival all guests staying in a unit pre-authorise a security deposit against damage, breakages and excess cleaning in line with just about all other holiday parks. In each unit there is a folder detailing what things extra charges will be made for.

These were the first guests into this particular unit this year following a full spring-clean. When they began their booking the unit was absolutely pristine.

When our housekeeping staff went to clean this unit after the guests had departed they found the draining board full of dishes that had to be re-washed before they could be put away, a broken casserole dish was left on the side full of leftover food, a dog ball covered in slobber had been put in the cupboard with the drinking glasses so all of the glasses needed to be re-washed, the double bedspread had several muddy marks on it so it needed to be laundered, the dining table runner was covered in greasy dish marks so had to be laundered, the oven, hob and roasting dishes were covered in baked-on grease so required a deep clean but most disgusting of all was the toilet that had not been flushed. We provide washing up liquid, cream cleaner, a scourer, dish cloth and tea towel surely that is adequate cleaning material for a two night stay for normal cleaning up. This unit would usually take two staff one and a half hours to clean, in this case two staff spent three and a half hours cleaning, not including the time to launder the bedspread and table runner, to return the unit to our usual high standard ready for the next guests.

The 'fault' with the shower was reported but we were asked not to go and fix it as they were happy to use the second bathroom. Following their departure the shower was checked and was working perfectly. User error?

The temperature in the lodges is controlled by a digital thermostat that will control the temperature accurately to 0.5 of a degree.

All of our units are equipped with enough pots, pans plates etc. to cook and serve a full roast dinner for the guest number per each unit. Surely that is more than adequate for any holiday accommodation.

An e-mail was sent to this guest advising that we intended to take the £25.00 from the security deposit and detailing the reasons why. The response we received was an ultimatum to return the money within three days or proceeding against us would be pursued and an adverse review on trip adviser would be posted.

We pride ourselves on the cleanliness of our units and our staff work tirelessly to ensure these standards are maintained. We do expect to clean after guests have stayed but we do not expect to clean up after them. We would never take money from a security deposit without first informing the relevant person and detailing the reasons why and strongly resent the implication that we did so in this case.

stayed in a motorhome,campsite very peaceful and small with basic amenities.The setting is lovely with a river running through a restaurant next door we did not eat as the menu was thai food but seemed very busy. A bridge adjoining the restaurant and campsite brings you to a lovely wooded dog walk take a left and you can walk to lynmouth beware around 2 miles some uphill and very steep downhill also to watersmeet if you have the energy further again.A tip though use the cliff tram to take you back up to Lynton and then you only have a 15min walk to the campsite on afairly level walk.Another lovely walk from Lynmouth village to watersmeet along the river again 2 miles fairly level really worth the views and a lovely place once you arrive.Going back to the site would I stay again you bet loved it.

We camp or rent a caravan on a campsite a few times every year, our young kids love the freedom of being on a quiet site - and Sunny Lyn seemed the perfect place for a summer break for us. On the phone the staff were very friendly

The site itself quite small, with a lovely setting by the river and pretty walks from the gate - great for camping (if you arent troubled by the river noise at night). The unprotected river isnt ideal for younger kids as it can be quite powerful, especially after rain, but it certainly is pretty

Alas the static caravans are not, in our view, anything like as good as they could be, and certainly not at the school holiday prices charged - with the additional (and quite unexpected) security deposit demanded on arrival sort of set the the tone really. Our van was old with curious mis-matched decor and quite limited equipment. The pans were ancient chunky aluminium ones only suitable for boiling veg (we love to cook as a family while away). There was no toaster or microwave (though to be fair not all vans have these). The fridge didnt have a freezer compartment (essential for ice creams and coolbox blocks). The TV was an ancient little portable with no DVD facility. Outside we had a view of the chemical toilet disposal point, no seats or seating area, just a small patch of gravel to park on - well under par compared to any other caravan we have rented in recent years.

With not much effort the site could easily create some pleasant outside seating and screen the chemical disposal. An internal decor refresh wouldn't go amiss - indeed the van we had was old enough to carry a trendy retro theme which could actually be quite lovely

The welcome book is worth a mention, there were lots of rules - and charges for breaking any of them, ie a spillage in the fridge £20, spillage in the oven £30, not washing dishes properly £40 etc

On the plus side, everything was very clean, the beds quite comfortable and the campsite utterly silent by 10pm. The location was a great base and we will return to the Lynton/Lynmouth area for sure

I booked to attend with my family and unfortunately there was was a death in my wife's family!! I had already paid half of deposit and and when I asked if they could do anything for the remainder they said "its terms and conditions and I needed to pay" I believe they could have shown some compassion and wave the other half or come to an arrangement where I could visit them or other dates-no such thing. I'm really disappointed with them and God forbid how would they feel if they were in my position! I would never stay with them.

We fully sympathise with any guest who suffers a family bereavement. We understand that such traumatic events come at a time when the last thing you want is to be bothered with financial matters.

It is exactly for this reason that we advise each and every guest to consider taking out holiday insurance. We recommend one such company in the information we send each guest but they are free to select one of their choice. The premiums are surprisingly cheap for UK holidays and avoid exactly this disappointment.

Any of our guests who find themselves in the unenviable position of having to cancel a holiday with us would also find it of great benefit, to both themselves and us, in letting us know of the situation in advance. Please give us as much time as possible instead of letting us know just a few hours before they are due to arrive. They will not find us unsympathetic.
