Stayed in a single room 216 . Lovely and clean great view and amenities however quite small . Very friendly and accommodating space and lovely breakfast . Great value for money also . However Bathroom floor was a little unappealing and shower small but clean and absolute fine for a weekend away .

This wonderful old hotel, built in 1812, situated right in the centre of Bournemouth is an absolute gem. While old and creaky, it houses a fabulous cocktail bar and restaurant and after being greeted by the most friendly of staff it made absolute sense to sit at the bar and watch the very talented (and good looking :) ) mixologists make a series of delicious and reasonably priced cocktails.
Dinner was thankfully a small menu of outstanding cooking using local ingredients, cooked to perfection. Interesting and very selective wine list and polite, attentive staff.
The room was clean and the bed so comfortable we missed breakfast.
The Royal Exeter is easy to access and you can walk to the gardens, seafront or town centre all in five minutes.
So, with the very helpful staff reflecting a well-loved private hotel (not a chain), this is a hotel that cares and one that we can't recommend enough.

Room tip: South facing is lovely – bright sun, the sea and a bit of the gardens

I booked this hotel through TripAdvisor and filtered my search for hotels with breakfast and wifi included. No complaints about the wifi, but the deal on TA didn't include breakfast and I only found this out when I got the confirmation email. Breakfast was £10 extra, so I didn't bother with it. If I'd known, I would've booked a different hotel.

Bedroom was pretty (recently decorated, but with classic style hotel furniture, not that ugly geometric furniture too many hotels have put in in the name of modernity) and clean. Bed was comfortable, but I still woke up 3 times in the middle of the night. Only the 3rd time did I realise what was going on: over the first really warm weekend of the year, they still had the central heating on. Maybe I was just still half-asleep, but I couldn't spot the thermostat and had to open the window instead, which isn't very green and puts one at risk of mozzie bites, but dammit, I had to get some sleep somehow.

Staff generally OK (explained about the botch-up re breakfast to receptionist, but she said there was nothing she could do about it, which is plausible, so I guess it would be unfair to hold that against her) and of course, this being a big hotel, it had a luggage room, which was v. handy as I went to Bournemouth to do some adventure sports for my birthday. Still, if I visit again, I'll probably book somewhere else.

We only stayed here for one night but it was enjoyable. The location is excellent being only a few minutes walk from the beach and central areas. The Hotel is old dating back to the 1800s (?) but the reception and bar areas are very modern. We stayed in a Family Quadruple Room (Superior #206) which was nice and tidy and had one double bed and 2 single beds, a tv and was very roomy. It had a big bathroom with bath and shower and was quiet the night we stayed (a Wednesday night). Floorboards were a bit creaky but no problem and could just about see the sea!!
There was a happy hour (cocktails only) in the bar 5-7pm and the bar area was very professional looking. All areas very clean and tidy and staff all friendly.
We had a room only deal and didn't choose to add breakfast at £10 ph as it was a continental breakfast - we walked into town instead.
Cost was £130 for the night which was fairly good value and a nice touch when checking out was that we were told that we could leave the car in the car park until 3pm that day, which saved us some parking fees.

Room tip: Rm 206 was very roomy and faced towards the sea. Was quiet on a Wednesday night

Good hotel and staff. Fantastic cocktail bar 1812 the best ever! Only had breakfast which was freshly cooked. The rooms however were a little tired and the shower was not great and leaked hence only 3 stars
