We came to this hotel for 2 nights to celebrate a friends birthday. From the first moment the staff were friendly helpful and nice and smiley. We had lovely rooms in the main building. They were well equipped with nice comfy beds and pillows. Tea and coffee in the room and breakfast was excellent, plenty of choice with the main meal being waiter/waitress served. Nice Smoked Salmon and Scrambled eggs I can recommend and Jonathan looked after us so well, putting us in an ajoining room with just 2 other people so quite exclusive. We didn't eat in the hotel in the evening so cannot comment on that. We used all the facilities, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi ,gym and swimming pool, all clean and well looked after. The staff were a joy, so helpful and pleasant, Tom and Sam were great. We would certainly come back. Thank you everyone for making it such a memorable trip.

Room tip: We had room 6 which had a four poster bed and views of the garden.

This is an expensive hotel and the proprietors assume that, if you can afford to stay overnight then, you can afford the cost of their food and drink and other services. However, the hotel provides 'what it says on the tin'. Parking at the front of the hotel is very limited but the concierge is on hand to move the car elsewhere. We had a room for the disabled and it was excellent in every respect, except that it was 200 yards from the Hotel front door. Breakfast was as good as it gets and the service was impeccable. The hotel is, emphatically, not wheelchair friendly with steps all over the place. The feature of this establishment is the quality of the staff. They were without exception courteous and helpful.
A note of warning: the bar stocks a fine range of whisky and gin. but you are advised to check on the price before you order anything. I asked for a 'double blended whisky' and the barman (charming lad) said 'Dewar's?' I replied, 'yes that'll do'.A few minutes later I discovered that the price was £41. That is NOT a misprint - £41. I rejected the glass, by now filled with ice, and said, 'nonsense, I'm not paying that.' The barman was completely unruffled and took back the glass of gold dust and diamonds without a qualm.
Full marks to him and the hotel. I wonder what happened to that glass of whisky?

Room tip: Avoid this hotel if you are in wheel chair

Stayed for one night to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The package included a bottle of champagne on arrival, a three course meal In the Beaufort dining room and breakfast. We stayed in a 'Traditional Room' which was comfortable, well equipped and more than adequate for a one night stay.

The hotel is a very impressive building dating back in parts to the 15th century and the buildings and grounds are immaculately maintained with great views looking towards the race course. We had a great evening meal, but the service was rather lacking and 'robotic' and we had to ask and remind the staff at every step of the way. Bread was put on the table 40 minutes after we'd sat down.

We asked the waitress not to pour our wine, we'd do it ourselves, but that fell on deaf ears - always annoying. Food was very nice though when it arrived and the dining room is very comfortable and atmospheric - a nice place to eat - and the poor service didn't spoil the evening.

Breakfast was good - service much better with staff who engaged with the diners. The staff from the previous evening could learn a lot from them! My 'poor' service rating relates to the evening staff - the breakfast staff score 5 out of 5!

A good choice to celebrate our anniversary - we'd come again.

Room tip: Our room was on two floors (the bathroom was upstairs) - no problem for us but we weren't warned before our arrival. It may not suit all.

Dear David GPang,

Thank you for taking the time to review us. It was a pleasure to hear of how much you enjoyed your time with us, and have indeed passed on your kind words to the team.

With regards to dinner, we have recently appointed a restaurant manager with an excellent background, whom shall be working on ensuring a consistently high standard of experience throughout both breakfast and dinner. I shall be interested to hear your thoughts upon your return & look forward to meeting you both then.

I want to give 5 stars because the Kato Star Suite was fantastic: lots of natural light offering beautiful views; a comfortable bed; a huge bathroom and even an additional separate toilet. However ...

Athough the food in the Beaufort restaurant was of a very high standard, both at breakfast and dinner, the tables were far too close together - we could hear every word from the next table and no doubt they had the same problem! We tried room service the following night which, although arriving promptly, seemed to offer rather meagre portions (eg the beef sandwich seemed to have more mustard than beef).

The spa: the staff were lovely and my pedicure was excellent but, as others have commented, the spa is quite small and the only (outdoor) pool is not attached to the spa and involves a walk across the grounds in a bathrobe!

Despite this, on the whole I did enjoy our stay and the suite was wonderful.

Dear Emily O,

I was so pleased to hear how much you enjoyed the Kauto Star suite, it truly is one of my favourite suites in the hotel. I'm sorry however that you found the tables too close together in our restaurant, if you could let me know when you stayed/ dined with us I would like to look in to whether this was our normal layout of tables as this is not feedback which we have had before.
