My husband planned a 3 night visit to celebrate my birthday and to revisit Cheltenham where I had been born and lived until we married. The hotel had been Oriel School where I had spent several very happy years so it was such a lovely surprise. The building is gorgeous and needs to be seen to be appreciated, it has been beautifully altered to retain its lovely features and from speaking to staff it appears that great effort is placed in making sure any amendments are done to an excellent standard. The Great Hall is still having work done but a waiter kindly showed us the room and appeared very knowledgable about what work is being done and why. Staff overall cannot be faulted, they were polite and attentive without being overly so, the wine sommelier was very helpful and the staff in the Spa gave me some wonderful treatments, no rush just calm and peaceful. I agree with an earlier comment that this hotel is not designed for anyone with poor mobility but I am confident that staff would do whatever was required to help. During dinner a lady complained about her starter (we can only say the food was 100%) but what impressed us was the efficient and polite way the staff responded, they accepted her feedback without any question and offered her alternatives. It is not the problems that I think you judge a hotel by but...My husband planned a 3 night visit to celebrate my birthday and to revisit Cheltenham where I had been born and lived until we married. It is not the problems that I think you judge a hotel by but they way they are dealt with, excellent. As with other reviews, the food in the Beaufort dining room (and the Brasserie) was delicious and my husband fell in love with the breakfast sausages! We will definitely stay again if ever we return to Gloucestershire.More
