Not very responsive, sent an email through their website enquiring about parking and didn't get a response but fortunately there was some info from the Town Council online!
Stayed here for a weekend to visit friends in Cirencester. The location of this pub with rooms is very good and the pub element is also reasonable. The staff were friendly and helpful.
We ate there on our first night and the food (Starter - squid, Mains - mussels and fish & chips) was well cooked and nicely presented and reasonable value, however we had to ask if we could have a pudding and unfortunately our choice wasn't available - no whipped cream and no meringues for the Eton Mess . I felt for the wait staff who had to come back and tell us it was off! Why weren't the staff made aware of this before service began? Poor communication from the kitchen. An alternative was offered FOC which we declined but appreciated the offer.
Sadly as you go through the door marked residents the rot sets in - literally. Water leaking down the stairwell (we'd had quite a heavy downpour in the previous hour), and peeling wallpaper.
We were in Room 2, an en-suite double. (The smallest en-suite I've ever seen - the shower mat was larger than the floor space available for it),.
As previously reviewed by others this room needs some work doing to it, The whole room needs redecorating, the windows will stop rattling if you screw tight the sash lock but they do need refurbing. The mould on the shower tray needs addressing, the extractor fan needs looking at as it doesn't work and whilst the electrician is looking at that he can look at the kettle which has to be wiggled on its base to get it to work
I am going to make some suggestions to the landlord/owner as this room could be so much better which would make it far better value for money.
I was also disappointed that our toilet bin had not been emptied prior to us arriving.
We did acquire a bin bag from one of the pub staff who had offered to change it for us.
In summary The Golden Cross is in a great location and serves good pub grub with friendly staff and pub dogs but to justify the room costs they needs some work on them.

So we arrived at 6 at night after traveling from USA and Far East just to be told our room wasn't ready! We were told that the cleaner rang in sick this morning and they hadn't had time to sort out the room. This is after we were told we were the only guests booked in for that night! We were offered a complimentary drink whils the room would be cleaned but we decided to go elsewhere and return later. We came back 8.30 and room was ready but they were closing and if we wanted a drink or anything else then we would have to go elsewhere.

The room itself was just about OK. The smallest bathroom I have ever experienced in my life - and I lived on a submarine for a while! Shower had mould in various places around tub and tile.

We left three days early not because of the hotel but mainly because of the experience on arrival.

I can not recommend The Cross on this experience

The only thing this place has going for it in my opinion, is the sunny beer garden. The rest is mediocre and clearly down to chronic understaffing. I have tried this pub/hotel on a number of occasions and each time its the same: one member of staff and a wait long enough to acquire cobwebs. How management can allow potential customers to walk out in frustration (we were a family group of 6 and not alone in walking out) is perhaps why companies like Wetherspoons are doing so well.
Try the Mad Hatter around the corner. They'e nice and they smile when they serve you. They have live music various times throughout the month and a Happy hour on weekdays, which was a nice surprise.

The room was very large with big windows. We had the double room on the second floor. The location is fantastic. The room is basic and it needs a little TLC, but it was very clean and quite comfortable. This room would be perfect for a family or a group of two or three friends. It also was quiet. Unfortunately we did not use the pub's terrace which looks lovely was it was too cold.

The room was cheaply furnished, the tiny bathroom had a very small shower cubicle the shower head was loose on the wall and there was black mildew on the grouting. The toilet had been replaced but not the floor Lino which no longer fitted. There was a kettle with tea and coffee in the wardrobe, the kettle base was dirty. There were blinds that could not be closed enough to darken the room but no curtains. No breakfast available. Very poor for an £80 cost!
