Third time of staying here, a few years after the last time, it appears to have been refurbished throughout and it has improved considerably. Nice welcome by the manager and a Spire Elite upgrade to an executive room. The room was small but nicely refurbished and clean, good size TV and chiller cabinet. Bathroom small but clean.
Two small points to note - the car park is not very big and we had to park in the road opposite at a cost of £12 for 24 hours. When we checked in we were asked if we had a car and it emerged that the hotel could have given us a voucher for free parking in the road. Why don't they make this clear in advance- it's no use finding that out after paying!
The air conditioning in our room was completely ineffective which wasn't great as it was an unseasonably warm weekend.
All in all would happily stay there again when next in Portsmouth.

Dear Keith-In-Brighton-UK,

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay with Holiday Inn Portsmouth.

Thank you for your positive feedback regarding our recent refurbishment. I am pleased to hear that you enjoyed your complimentary upgrade and found your bedroom comfortable and clean. I will pass on your comments to the General Manager about the parking permit options as the information should be on our hotel website. Regarding the air conditioning it has recently been changed to heat due to the seasonal change, however you are able to open the windows in all our bedrooms if you find it on the warmer side.

Thank you again, and we can hopefully welcome you back soon.

Kind regards
Rachel Attfield

Stayed here for work as it was near by, rooms were clean but the toilet was very small and compact, you couldn't swing a Cat ! as they say. Breakfast was ok sometimes a little cold.staff were helpful and friendly.

Dear Burt H,

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay with Holiday Inn Portsmouth.

Thank you for your positive feedback regarding helpful and friendly staff. Customer service is extremely important to us so to hear that this has been recognised is wonderful. I am pleased to hear that you found the bedroom nice and clean but sorry that you found the bathrooms too small. Unfortunately the hotel was built in the 70's so they are slightly on the smaller side. I will pass on your comments to the Head Chef regarding breakfast being slightly cold so please accept my apologies for this.

Thank you again, and we can hopefully welcome you back soon.

Kind regards
Rachel Attfield

Stayed here for a two night break (Fri-Sat) visiting Portsmouth. Everything was absolutely fine from the check-in (had booked through Booking.com) to check out. The reception desk staff were friendly and informative. The room was comfortable (we were on the 4th floor) and we slept well. We used the pool/sauna/steam room one evening which was great. We didn’t eat in, choosing to walk the 10-15 min or so to Gunwharf Quay where there is every type of eatery you could want. Parking was fine when we got there, although it looked like people were having to park on the road by later in the evening.
The hotel is ideally situated for a visit to old Portsmouth. Literally a few minutes walk from the seafront, and 15 mins or thereabouts stroll to Gunwharf Quays and the Historic Dockyard.

The only downsides were that Sunday breakfast was incredibly busy about 9am (there was a wedding the day before and I reckon everyone had agreed to meet at 9am for breakfast!). To be fair, that’s not the hotels fault.

Also, the toaster as is so often the case in hotels was rubbish. Either overdo or underdo the bread. In this case it just made the bread slightly warm, and frankly it was too busy to stand there putting it through three times to brown it.

If I was to come to Portsmouth again, I’d definitely check here first.

Booked two double bed room with sea view nearly a month before travel.
At check in told not available at hotel. I could have booked room provided cheaper.
Room was changed but still not to standard expected and just had to accept. Lots of faults with room, but did not want to return to reception where I had previously been kept waiting for a while to see a manager.

Dear jeanne201520152015,

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay with Holiday Inn Portsmouth.

I am sorry to hear that you were left unsatisfied with the room that had been booked for you. I understand that Expedia have booked an unspecified room type and then added a request for a double bedroom? I hope you have managed to rectify these problems with the Travel Agent. If you would like to email the faults experienced during your stay to hr@hiportsmouthhotel.co.uk

Thank you again, and we can hopefully welcome you back soon.

Kind regards

This is a decent hotel, neither good nor bad. Rooms are clean. The staff was friendly and professional. It is about 10 walking distance to the Gunwharf Quays. Rooms are a little on the small side, but nothing like at an Ibis.
