Having read these reviews we were surprised to find a less than average B&B. Room was clean but bedding was inadequate and despite an exhausting day we had a dreadful nights sleep. Bathroom was shabby, shower dreadful. Plug socket hanging off the wall in bedroom which seems dangerous. Would not recommend.

I’m sorry you had a disappointing stay with us especially as we try to make guests as comfortable as possible.

Bedding. I’m not to sure what you mean by inadequate bedding, but it is supplied by one of the best hospitality manufacturers http://www.mitrehallandletts.com . The sheets are all Egyptian cotton. The blankets are all wool while the pillows are filled with 85% white duck feather and 15% white duck down, in a cotton sateen cover. Extra pillows (which are anti allergenic) are found in the blanket chest of draws or wardrobe together with a spare blanket, contained in zipped storage bags for hygiene. Also you can request for extra or alternative bed linen. The beds themselves are just loved by our guests. We comply with the same conditions laid down by the tourist board regarding to bedding.

Bathroom .I’m surprised when you say that the bathroom was shabby as all our bathrooms were refurbished last year, most with new sanitary ware and flooring while the walls and ceiling with a wipe clean sound deadening cladding. Because we are in a hard water area to reduce the affects of scale build up our shower heads are spa style based on the venturi principle. The spray may seem different but I would have been pleased to assist .

Socket. Not knowing which room you were in I double checked the sockets to find the one hanging off the wall. I couldn’t find one but the one that is loose is a TV aerial behind a dressing table which a previous guest had damaged and while waiting for a new socket I bypassed it so guests could continue to enjoy watching Freeview channels. The aerial lead is not dangerous.

Like many of our guests on entering a bedroom for the first time I make myself accustom to how equipment works and if in doubt I request assistance straight away and not wait until I’m in a shower or should I require extra pillows not wait till in bed etc. Also the room information has a lot of guidance. Finally, if you have a grievance always discuss with management first, as this has come as a surprise.

We stayed at the Victoria Court on a Saturday night when attending a family party. The B&B was perfectly situated a mere 5 minute walk from the venue of the party so was perfect!
It's a very well run business with comfortable and very well stocked rooms. The owners cater for everything you could possibly need, including plenty of towels, nice thick pillows, toiletries, hair dryer and iron! A welcome pack is waiting for you when you arrive in case the owner is unavailable and you can also reserve garage parking (free street parking nearby but it does get busy).
Breakfast is pre-ordered the evening before and is freshly cooked at the time of your choice (within their breakfast hours). Full cooked English breakfast was delicious and generously portioned. Cereals and yogurts also freely available and veggie or continental alternatives too.
Owner is very welcoming and makes friendly chit chat, he also trades your key for a small box of chocolates on your check out!
We really enjoyed our stay and would happily stay here again! Very comfortable and very reasonably priced. It's nice to get a proper turn key and a friendly face instead of a key-card at the chain hotels!

Room Tip: Rooms on three floors so ask for ground floor if you find stairs difficult.

Dear Lukin128

Thank you for your “excellent” review and for taking the time to write it. I hope the family party went well and that you will come again soon and enjoy some of the sights that Portsmouth has to offer. All of which are within walking distance.

Best wishes and thank you again

We stayed here for 2 nights, arriving Friday evening so that we could take part in a charity cycle ride bright and early on Saturday morning. The owner was extremely accommodating and helpful and even loaned me a bike tool for the day! The room we stayed In was extremely spacious and clean, the bathroom a little cosy but perfectly functional and and the rate we paid still great value. we got to sample both the continental and cooked breakfasts and both were perfect. The breakfast room was also beautifully decorated. Location-wise, the b&b is less than 10min cycle ride from Portsmouth Harbour station, although Fratton is probably half that. There are loads of restaurants within easy reach. In summary, we wouldnt hesitate to stay here again if visiting portsmouth in the future!

Dear mah299

Thank you for the review, its nice to meet up with other cyclists. I hope you sorted the bike out on your return. A few years ago I cycled from Fratton station to here in less than 2 minutes whether I can do that today I don’t know. Perhaps you might try round the Island next year.

Best wishes and thank you again

We stayed here for a wedding from Fri-sunday in July 2011. A lovely clean and bright building. Spacious rooms and double glazing really kept out the noise of the street outside. A good breakfast also. David even gave us a box of chocolates when we checked out- lovely touch and would definately stay here again. Thank you
