We went to see Matthew Bourne's Cinderella. I hadn't read any reviews but always love his interpretations and this was a very clever Cinderella, a love story taking place in London during the 1940 Blitz. Together with modern ballet styles, these made for a very creative presentation which we really enjoyed. The sets and visual effects were clever too, all of which lead to a memorable occasion.
The one negative was the heat in the theatre. We were in the stalls, just under the circle so that heat became trapped and soporific, despite the cold and wet outside.
Fabulous evening at The Mayflower to see Matthew Bourne's Cinderella.
The show was excellent as was the theatre in every respect.
I can't wait to go back.
Been here 3 times now to see shows and I must say it's probably one of the best outside London, don't think there is a bad seat in the house and pretty central for bars and restaurants.
Recently attended for matinee performance of ballet, with predominantly female audience. Key word - toilets!!
Apart from the queues to use the facilities, the venue was very comfortable ( Rear stalls seats). Seemed very warm at first, but a steward mentioned that there is a minimum temperature for dance performances, which we can quite understand.
Sound system worked well and volume was suitable for this performance.
Refurbishment of the auditorium due soon which will improve viewing as seats in rows in front/ behind will be offset. Look forward to that!
