Stayed 2 nights here. The hotel is fine, the staff are efiicient and friendly. Bed enormous. Facilities adequate. Breakfast good. Location superb. Would certainly recommend.
Just 2 gripes...
1. Car parking. Hotel car parking is inadequate. It was full when we arrived so we had to park in the open air public park across the road. £15 per day but free on Sundays.
2. We paid extra to upgrade our room to enjoy "views over the Cathedral grounds". Well maybe in winter, but in summer the row of trees growing right next to the hotel provides a very effective screen to any such views (see attached photos). Great if you're a fan of leaves !!

Room Tip: Higher floor.

Booked in for a long weekend, half board. Lets start with the best, the hotel is next to the cathedral and the staff were pleasant and helpful. The reception area is fine after that everything looks tired, our room had been decorated but all the furniture was scuffed, tiles on the bathroom were cracked. Dinner on each evening was uninspiring and they appeared to be permanently under staffed.
We have enjoyed Mercure hotels in the past but in future I will give them a miss.

How on earth this Hotel has 4 Stars is beyond belief. Car par is so hard to get into then they allow other cars to park behind you so you don’t have a hope in hell of getting out so spent an hour trying to get out
For nearly £170 a night I would expect bottled water in the room
And that’s another thing the room has a double bed but it’s pushed up against the wall not ideal
The front of House look like they can’t be bothered. The bar is hardly manned. and to allow people to walk there dogs and bikes through reception is wrong all in all one if the worst hotel i stayed In I will not be back

Stayed for a weekend for Cycling event. Staff were fantastic and so helpfull. Breakfast was as expected typical buffet style. Room and hotel in general is a bit dated but room was so hot! had to sleep with window open and noise was bad and lack of sleep. Please invest in air conditioning!

Very good stay in Mercure Winchester. Hotel is very central with access to the main shops and Winchester Cathedral only a 2 minute walk away. The hotel has a very 70's feel to it and is showing its age a bit. Our room was very comfortable albeit a bit smaller than we would have expected for a double
