We were in Dover for the day, strange choice I know, but we had a few hours to kill, including lunchtime. We found The Allotment purely by chance, we thought the menu looked interesting - much more so than most places in Dover - and decided to give it a try.
The we found the patio garden. How lovely - backed by ancient walls, cool and shady on a hot day, and not full of smokers.

The food didn't disappoint at all, it was very good, and the choice of drinks was broad too. Service was prompt and polite, and prices very reasonable indeed.

Highly recommended!

Sunday night so not high in our expectations although Trip Advisor gave excellent reviews. Booked and arrived 7.15pm. 15+ minute wait for service and another 15+ before drinks arrived, without the water. On a second request water arrived. We shared two entrees and garlic bread, satisfactory but nothing I would rate highly. We shared a duck in plum sauce, the duck was plentiful but a sweet plum sauce not to our liking but worth a try. Good quality vegetables accompanied the duck. Overall a ‘pub’ type meal rather than the restaurant meal we had hoped for.

We have just left this restaurant. We walked and and were given menus there were only 2 other tables occupied. By the time we walked out there were 3 more tables occupied and served. We kept being told they would be with us in a minute. 20 minutes later still no order taken and completely fed up this is the first time I have ever walked out of a restaurant.

I visited the allotment again with a friend (My yearly visit to Dover) this week.
Had a lovely visit as always. My friend and I both had the duck....which was beautifully cooked and presented and tasted delicious.
So glad we took time out to visit...lovely restaurant, lovely people.

Thank bonniemer
