Review of Loughrigg Fell

Ranked #1 of 51 things to do in Ambleside
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 3 weeks ago

The climb from Ambleside to the summit is around 900 feet, so you'll need to be reasonably fit. the view from the trig point at the top is spectacular, with views of Windermere, Coniston, Elterwater, Loughrigg Tarn, and in the distance Thirlmere. The descents to either Loughrigg Terrace or Loughrigg Tarn, are precipitous, but it's well worth the effort.

We walked up from Rydal and then back via Loughrigg Terrace, a nice circular walk of about 5 miles.
It was quiet when we were at the summit but got busy with people walking up from Grasmere as we came down.

I love Ambleside. We walked from Ambleside up Loughrigg Fell, back down to Rydal Water before returning to Ambleside. Beautiful views from the top. We will walk it again one day.

You can park in the center then walk through the park to the fell via minor road via the terris. Aprox distance 6.4 miles. Step incline for about 30 minutes then some level sections to the summit. Plenty of parking (although expensive) in town and places to eat. Great views over grassmere, langdale and coniston fells.
