“Fantastic place to stay”
Reviewed 5 November 2014 for a stay in October 2014

We had a week in Esther's Barn during half term. The cottage was well equipped, really comfortable beds and clean and well cared for. Plenty of hot water and great bathrooms!

The grounds were interesting to stroll around and the whole environment was very eco-friendly. Our daughter loved the rope swing, and can't wait to return in the summer for a dip in the pond! Dogs welcome. Weather was the usual mix of Lake District weather but the cottage was a very warm and welcoming place to return to. Drying cabinet for wet boots and clothing at this time of year was a bonus.

The cottage is not far from Cockermouth (or Keswick) and not too long a drive will get you to some of the quieter (and more lovely) areas of the Lake District e.g. Loweswater, Crummockwater and Buttermere. For children, Honnister mine and Pencil Museum are interesting, and had a great walk up Catbells (and beyond) on a crisp, sunny morning. Lots of adventure activities available in Keswick e.g. ghyll scrambling and kayaking.

Lots of excellent places to eat out, but we had a trip to the Drunken Duck (near Ambleside about an hours drive) which was our favourite. Kirkstile Inn was more local and food was of a good quality.

Highly recommended!

“Excellent new years stay”

Clean, modern, well laid out cottage with excellent facilities. Great location with very accommodating (but not over bearing) owners. The quality of the accommodation ensured our new years break was excellent.

“Perfect hospitality in a marvellous location”
Reviewed 8 November 2013 for a stay in October 2013

An eco-friendly holiday lets development provides not only an ideal location for exploring the northern lakes but is itself a treasure from which to view and appreciate the surrounding countryside. We have returned here on six occasions, not only because of the convenience but because of the warm and friendly reception from the owner who always ensures a beautifully prepared and serviced accommodation.

“A perfect location for exploration and relaxation.”
Reviewed 15 September 2013 for a stay in August 2013

Southwaite Green is an ideal location from which to explore this part of the country. Esthers Barn is lovely and a really comfortable place to relax after a day of walking the fells or visiting the many nearby attractions. The property is very nicely furnished and equipped and is surrounded by interesting and varied grounds in which you are free to wander. Marna is a most welcoming host and always helpful. We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

“Excellent accommodation in peaceful location”
Reviewed 12 June 2013 for a stay in May 2013

Esther's Barn is spacious and comfortable with every luxury you could wish for including power shower and dishwasher. The upstairs living room and outdoor patio area make the most of the lovely views over open countryside. There were only 2 of us staying but it would also be great for 2 couples or a family, with 2 large ensuite double bedrooms. Plenty of room for the dog to run around outdoors too. We loved it!
