This is a classic and classy hotel. I’m sure Wordsworth himself would have waxed lyrical about this hotel and it’s very attentive, friendly and welcoming staff. The town of Grasmere is one of the most beautiful villages you’re ever likely to come across with great restaurants, galleries and cafes.

Stayed for one night, had afternoon tea ( with wine!) on arrival in the beautiful garden.
Relaxed and strolled round village hotel is centrally located in grasmere. Saw Wordsworth ‘s grave and gingerbread shop .
Dinner was delicious and staff were very kind and welcoming. Hotel facilities were immaculate

Just come back from a 1 night stay at The Wordsworth which was a bit like a curate egg!
THE GOOD
- the food and accompanying service was first rate
- pleasant environment to sit around / relax in
THE BAD
- sleep quality was atrocious with an unbeliveably hot room & a top sheet that simply did not fit the bed. The 6" fan provided was a waste of space and all the noise from the adjoining elevator & room doors only compounded matters
- a very curt and arrogant receptionist who was a poor representatiive for the hotel group
- there was no hot water in the hotel for almost 3 hours after a power cut had been corrected. I was hot, smelly & uncomfortable waiting for the boilers to be reset with little communication about the expected timespan.
THE UGLY
- a Courtyard Double room is the biggest misnomer I have ever come across. The outlook is not a courtyard but a horrible service duct with a fire exit staircase from all inside rooms
- FINALLY ANY ONE LOOKING TO VISIT / BOOK SHOULD BE AWARE THAT THE PRICE PROMISE ON THEIR WEBSITE IS OF LITTLE VALUE. I BOOKED THROUGH AN ALTERNATIVE BOOKING SITE & SAVED MYSELF 20% (ALMOST £50) ON HOTEL WEBSITES QUOTED DB&B RATE!!

In conclusion I will not be going back there despite their excellent restaurant, until the hotel can provide the 4 star room comfort, general service and pricing policy that many alternatives already take as a given.

Stayed: May 2018

Many thanks for taking the time to post your review.

Unfortunately due to a power cut throughout the entire village, there was a outage in the boiler system which unfortunately meant the boilers going onto a manual system and taking a bit longer to heat the water back up again. Sadly these things are not expected and are out of our control and we did everything we could to resolve the problem as quickly and efficiently as possible. We could not have given you an exact specific time for the water to heat back up, but I do believe we gave you an idea and promptly informed you when the boiler was back running again.

We do say on all websites that we advertise on that our Courtyard rooms do not offer a view aspect. We do also control our prices directly and online travel agents, and we are happy to match any price you see online that may be reduced for the same deal.

Best Regards
Rachael

My wife and I stopped here after visiting the lakes distillery. Knowing the village well as my grandfather was from Grasmere we chose this hotel due to the location, car park, facilities and price. We arrived via the rear entrance as we had parked at the rear of the hotel, meeting a number of staff when walking through the hotel who were very friendly. Arriving at the front desk / reception we were seen very promptly and checked in swiftly then shown to our room. The room was pleasantly spacious to what I was expecting with a clean bathroom. The bed was comfortable and large enough not to even touch the wife all night so a good nights sleep was had by both of us.
The hotel is slap bank in the middle of the village so is easy to get about. The hotel does have a pool, jacuzzi & sauna that we used. I did notice that some parts needed some tlc but nothing major. (Loose floor tiles next to the entrance of the sauna). The breakfast had a good choice along with fruit juices and the normal danish’s etc. The check out was just as efficient as check in. Overall the hotel is very nice with lovely gardens and some spa facilities. Staff were great from start to finish. Would recommend this hotel to anyone. Will definitely be back.

The good points - very clean throughout, beautiful lounges and gardens and toiletries. Lovely village with good walks round about.

The bad points - Room 18 which was uncomfortably noisy and hot, resulting in my husband having to move. As he is the only driver in the family, it's vital that he has a good rest.
Also confusion over what we were allowed to eat for Continental breakfast. We asked the waitors what we were entitled to each morning but they didn't seem to understand what we were asking. This resulted in us having hardly anything and having to pay £12.50 extra was ridiculous. Very poor selection of non-cooked items for the popularity of the establishment.
Very expensive for what we got.
If it hadn't been for these issues, I would have given it Very Good.

Room Tip: Avoid room 18 over kitchen & noisy refrigeration, room very hot & uncomfortable. Rooms on 2nd floor much better
