My partner treated me to 2 nights at the Grand as a surprise Christmas present but he was only able to book a room in the lodge. However, when we arrived, we were upgraded to a Fell View room (10) which has lovely views of the hills with the lake in the distance. Coming from Lytham and having eaten at the Grand Hotel many times, we knew the high standard to expect and several friends had already told us that we would love it but it was even better than we had hoped. The hotel is beautifully furnished and everything has been thought of, including a very useful drying room for wet boots and clothes. The bedroom was very comfortable with a king size bed and luxurious bedding, Molton Brown toiletries and even the bathrobes and slippers were of better quality than most hotels. The staff were without exception polite and helpful, especially the manager, Sarah who was always on hand to answer any questions. The breakfast was one of the best we've ever had, including at more expensive hotels and had something for everyone. We ate dinner one evening at Café Grand and had a lovely meal. The location of the hotel is excellent within a few minutes walk from the village of Grasmere with its pubs, cafes and restaurants and also close to the lake with many walks nearby. We would particularly recommend the walk round Rydal Water which you can start either from Grasmere or park at Rydal Water itself for a shorter 3 mile walk. We can't wait to go back to the Grand at Grasmere!

Room Tip: Rooms in the lodge are cheaper but haven't been refurbished yet.

The Grand at Grasmere is one of our favourite hotels in the U.K. And yes we have been again for a weekend break. I'll keep this review short as nothing has changed.
Hotel - excellent refurbishment. Great internal design and decoration.
Staff - friendly, efficient and professional to a very high standard.
Restaurant - maintains its high standard of food and wine choices with excellent service.
Cleanliness and maintenance continues to be of a very high standard throughout this hotel.
Weather - well there has to be a problem somewhere ! Our wet weather walking did get done and the wet boots and coats were happy to be in the excellent hotel drying room.
A really great relaxing break as usual.
We will continue to be boring and will return later this year.

We spent 3 nights at the Grand for a Valentine's treat. From the moment we arrived to checking out, I have to say that all of the staff were incredibly attentive and caring. The attention to detail throughout the hotel lounges, bar and restaurant areas shows that the owners must have a really good feel for design. They have used subtle, neutral shades throughout creating a very contemporary, warm and welcoming feeling. The room in the Lodge was excellent - very spacious and containing everything you could possibly need, from a handy Nespresso machine to a combined bath/shower, robes, slippers etc. The heating in the room was excellent and very responsive due to the Honeywell electronic controller and radio controlled radiator valves. The restaurant food was incredible - we had only planned to eat there on the first night but enjoyed it so much that we ended up dining on all three nights - try the pork belly! Breakfast was also very good with an excellent choice of cooked and continental produce. We loved the choice of background music in the lounge areas. Grasmere is an excellent base for walks of all levels. We walked to Ambleside via Grasmere and Rydal water and caught the bus back - a lovely walk of about 6 miles. We also walked up to Easdale Tarn and back down through the valley for another excellent circular walk of about 5 miles. We never had to use the car during the three days as there's so much to see and do locally, which is always a bonus. We'll definitely be back!

Thank you for the review. Pleased you enjoyed everything. Room 5 is a compact room, in the classic category. Try Fell View, or Lake View Category's for that bit more luxury. Thank you again.

Having stayed here for two nights in the Lodge, I am split on the review as I was informed the Lodge will be updated later this year, and if matches the main hotel I am sure it will be very nice. The bedroom and bathroom as you would expect both need some TLC, but both were clean and the bed very large, the TV was a very small pointless object in a large room, tea and coffee making facilities with a kettle, my main issue is the soap dispensers in the bathroom hate them, and they should never be in any bathroom to be updated or not for the price of this room. The staff are very nice and the new areas in the main hotel well done with nice furniture and I like the colour scheme. The restaurant food is also very good, and you can get a proper breakfast maybe this can move to Lytham please. I must agree with other comments about the dreadful music played too loud in parts of the hotel, however I will return

Thank you. Lodge refurbishment commences in the next couple of weeks and will be ready for Easter. No disruption for the main hotel at all!
