Popped in for a cup of tea. Down stairs is a large bakery and up stairs is a single open plan tea room. Lots of tables so little chance of not getting in. The menu has all the usual hot drinks in different sizes depending on thirst. Food has scones to sandwiches plus fancies, beans on toast. The cream tea offers clotted cream so passes muster with me although the clotted cream is in small manufactured pots rather than served from a larger - fresher? - volume. A near by table had an afternoon tea between two with a tower structure of sandwiches, scones, fancy cakes and pots of tea for £27. It was too much for them but the surplus was placed in boxes for them to take away. The real high spot was the toilets. These are located up another flight of stairs but are of a very high standard such found in a very posh hotel. Un-cramped seating with space for day sacs. Paper based ordering system is not something I have seen for a while but it seems to work well.

Afternoon tea stop....although 3.30pm we were the only ones upstairs in the tearoom before another 4 or 5 people trickled in. So not a good atmosphere and all very much laid out a bit like a canteen with rows of tables. Between us we had cheese scones (very tasty) and what was supposed to be coffee walnut cake which was a big disappointment.....hardy tasted of coffee..very pale in colour and covered in hard white chocolate....did have a walnut on the top! Sorry but do not recommend this tearoom.

Unfortunately after having had a poor experience here some time ago, we decided to give it another go - taking friends with us. We had to sit outside due to having a dog with us - which was fine. Two of us went inside to purchase drinks and cakes, and we were 3rd in the queue. It took over 10 minutes to be asked what we would like, then 10 minutes to be given our drinks/cakes. Others in the queue were commenting that this spoils the experience. I feel better attention should be given to outside diners, and that smoking in the little area outside should not be allowed. Such a shame because the food is fabulous.
