We have stayed at this small simple campsite 4 or 5 times in recent years. It is in a charming location with hills all around and within a short walk of 2 pubs. The farmer who runs it is helpful and very proactive. He meets late arrivals in the dark with his torch to guide to suitable plots and minimise noise. The emphasis on this site is peace and quiet and that is why we like it. But we forgot this might clash when arranging a 50th birthday get together here! We were politely relocated to a field across the lane where we could stay up as late as we liked. Loos and showers are basic and pot washing sinks have cold taps only. If you dislike large, regimented campsites or being kept awake by boozy groups, you'll love this place.

There were a few wet pitches, but easily avoided. Amazing scenery, 2 pubs within 10mins walking distance.
Facilities were fine, clean and well maintained, although perhaps more rustic than some I have been to.
Great central location for Borrowdale and north Lakes.

Room Tip: Avoid wet areas

Good pitch. Level ground. Helpful owners. Thank you. Very cold morning but fantastic view. Lots of space in the campsite. Short walk to local pub for good food. Part of our coast to coast walk. Easy for Sherpa to pick up rucksack.

Very close by to Scafell Pike walk and ample parking. Very friendly owner and lots of grassy, clean space. We were in a small tent and the price for one night was standard. Toilets clean, toilet paper and soap plenty. Didn't use the showers. Would return again :)

I have to admit a bias, I love Borrowdale and have been returning here regularly since I was a teenager in the 70s. What could be better than having your breakfast sitting outside in this amazing place?

The site itself provides somewhere to stick your tent, parking space, loos and hot showers (at 50p a go). That's it. If you want a luxurious campsite, electricity hookup or all night disco, then you are looking in the wrong place. If you want the hills and peace and quiet then you really can't do better.

This visit was because I was taking place in a fell-race. The showers were hot enough to make me feel human again after slogging over the hills.

My only gripe (and this is not the fault of the site) is the person in a nearby tent who thought we all wanted to listen to Chris Evans' breakfast show; we didn't.

I first camped here in 1974 and expect to be back into my decrepitude.

Room Tip: It's a campsite!
