we "upgraded "to a room with a view. The view was pretty good, glimpses of lake Windermere throu the trees ok. But the room was tiny! A small "double bed"with a gap to the wall of about 18inches either side.open the bathroom door and trip over the toilet, the shower was a dribble. To open the wardrobe or dressing table draws you had to move one of the two chairs in the room. Overall if you don't mind stairs or waiting for a two person only lift the hotel was clean the staff friendly and helpful .Just don't upgrade to room 220 !the hotel is sited at the top of a steep road over looking the rail &bus station. It is a one /half mile walk ( downhill) to Bowness and the Lake, but a steep and tiring walk back, bus or taxi highly recommended.

Room Tip: We were in room220 tiny we paid extra for view. Standard rooms pokey from hearsay.

Dear Reviewer

Thank you for taking the time to write a review.
I am glad you enjoyed the views from your room and I am sorry that the room itself was not to your liking.
I am happy to hear that you found the staff friendly and helpful, we do take customer service seriously here at the Windermere Hotel.
We can provide bus time tables and taxi numbers here at the hotel and are very lucky to be just across the road from the bus and train stations.

Kind Regards
Giles

Have just returned from a coast and country, self drive, weekend at this hotel. Really enjoyed our stay and no complaints at all. The staff were very pleasant and obliging, the breakfast and dinner were excellent. Entertainment in evening was okay but we went out to the local pubs anyway in the evenings, the Queens was good and had plenty of atmosphere. Room was on the smallish side but for what we paid I thought it was excellent value for money. This is the second time we have stayed here and I would stay again.

We have just returned from a 5 day holiday at The Windermere Hotel on a Shearing's tour and we enjoyed the magnificent view from our upgraded tiny room! We were really disappointed with the size of the room, cramped isn't the description we could give as that would give an impression of space! We had to move a chair just to get to the wardrobe, and I'm sure it wasn't a full sized double bed either. It's a good job we didn't have the towel heater on in the bathroom as we would have suffered third degree burns as the bathroom was so narrow, the door had to be opened wide to get in and then closed again to use the toilet, the shower just trickled so there was no danger of getting scalded.
The good points were that the view was brilliant, the rooms and public areas clean and nicely decorated with polite staff. The resteraunt was made up of small dining areas and the 'coach party guest' were treated quite different to other guest with a different menu with a smaller and cheaper choice.
Entertainment was provided for only 2 nights which was a little disappointing.
If you are going on a Shearing's coach trip be aware that there are no rest stops after the interchange and you are there for 12:30 but cannot access your rooms until 3 pm and on the day of departure you have to vacate your rooms by 10 am but do not depart until 1:30 pm.
Please do not upset the by calling the coach a bus nor to refer to him as driver but by his name, if you forget you will be be snapped at!

Dear Reviewer,
Firstly thank you so much for taking the time to write a review and for your kind comments.
All of our beds are the standard size wither it is single or double, except for in our ‘Superior’ and ‘Premier’ rooms which contain larger beds.
I am sorry to hear about your shower, I wish you had bought it to our attention during your stay so we could have resolved the issue.
We do have stunning views from the front of our hotel and we are glad you enjoyed them.
I am also glad you found our staff here to be polite, we do take customer service very seriously and pride ourselves on our delightful team.
We do treat all our guests the same, I am sorry if you felt otherwise. When you book half board through Shearings Holidays, whether on the ‘coach’ or ‘self drive’ a three course meal is included. However there is always the option to upgrade to the A La Carte menu.
We do offer relaxed style entertainment at our hotel on 3 nights a week.
I am sorry you had to wait for your room, unfortunately we do need to give the housekeepers time to clean the rooms, hence the departure at 10am and no check in until 3pm. On the other hand you can always explore the local area as Windermere town centre is only a short distance from the hotel or as many guest do have lunch in our Piano bar.
Kindest Regards
Giles

Great hotel. Great food and drink. Room was clean and serviced regularly. We have a 12 month old and were accommodated perfectly both at dinner and in the bar. One thing I would comment on is the amount of non English speaking staff in the restaurant. We struggled understanding them at times and weren't on our own!

Just stayed at Windermere hotel for 3 nights had a loveley time seeing Bowness and all surrounding areas. The hotel is really good and in an exellent location. Being a celiac I found the whole experience of eating really good as they have as seperate menu for gluten free. I would definitely come again

Room Tip: Pay extra and have a lake view on a high floor
