Description: The original Bombay cafes have almost all disappeared. Their faded elegance welcomed all: rich businessmen, sweaty taxi-wallas and courting couples. Fans turned slowly. Bentwood chairs were reflected in stained mirrors, next to sepia family portraits. Students had breakfast. Families dined. Lawyers read briefs. Writers found their characters. Opened early last century by Zoroastrian immigrants from Iran, there were almost four hundred cafes at their peak in the 1960s. Now, fewer than thirty remain. Their loss is much mourned by Bombayites.

Good food and great atmosphere is on offer at this trendy Indian restaurant. Visited on Easter Sunday and there was a queue which meant we had to wait in the cold for an hour, but the wait for worth it. The food was warm and fresh, the customer service was excellent, the restaurant was clean and prices were reasonable. Would have loved to have a bit more flavour in the biriyani but no complaints!

My OH was sceptical about having indian food for breakfast but was pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere and decor was very welcoming and upmarket. The food tasted delicious and fresh and the staff were friendly and attentive. The food was delicious and excellent value for money. Would love to go for dinner.

I have often seen queues outside Dishoom and decided to have breakfast there. We were seated downstairs as the ground floor restaurant was full. There wasn’t much by way of atmosphere in the basement restaurant and decoration is sparse.

I ordered a Bombay omelette which with the inclusion of coriander and green chilli sounded as though it would be tasty. What arrived was an overlooked, tasteless omelette with no hint of the above herbs and spices. The ‘Fire Toast’ was just a slice of cold toast. Coffee and orange juice were also very average.

The service was pleasant, and our server was fine. Would I return for lunch or dinner? No, not based on the fact a simple omelette could be so awful.

Almost every time we come to London we come to Dishoom for at least one breakfast.
Today we did the same. Great service. Smiley and thoughtful team. Delicious and nicely cooked food. Tried the chai hot drink the first time. Love it.
Also love the way the restaurant tries to explain the origin of some food and drinks. Make the experience more interesting. Love to have more restaurants like this.
