I always expect this to be bigger every time I see it.

Hard to get close to as always surrounded by tourists. There was a rap duo performing this most recent time. Thank the Lord for zoom lenses - you can see the details of the statue when you zoom in!

Normally cordoned off when I visit, it was nice to see Eros open, but you still can't get near due to hordes of tourists

Great to see The statue of Eros but situated where both where motorised and pedestrian traffic is very busy. Worth a visit and spending a few minutes looking at part of London's history.

The official name of the centrepiece is the Shaftesbury Memorial Fountain, named after the great Victorian philanthropist Anthony Ashley Cooper, 7th Earl of Shaftesbury. The sculpture of the fountain itself is of remark- able naturalistic proto-Art Nouveau invention, hence Pevsner's quotation "fishes of all kinds, and every class of molluscous and crustacean life, the crab, the lobster and such like".

The famous statue of Eros at the top of the fountain is one of the symbols of London. The fountain is made in bronze, but Eros is made out of aluminium, at that time a rare and novel material. But the figure is actually not Eros but his twin brother Anteros. Gilbert considered various ideas to celebrate the charitable life of the Earl. He eventually decided on a fountain, topped with the winged figure of Anteros, the ancient Greek symbol of Selfless Love. Gilbert described Anteros as portraying "reflective and mature love, as opposed to Eros or Cupid, the frivolous tyrant."

This is a focal point in this area of London and one which gives a lot of history to London - a lot of locals and tourists use this as a meeting point as one can sit at the base of the statue and wait for your friends to meet you

Look into the history behind the statue and you will be interested to know about the origins of Eros in Piccadilly

Great for photographs - Enjoy
