I've never written a review for a booking site before but felt I had to after a horrible stay at the Swinton. The reviews on another site were generally good and it looked okay from the photos, but the reality was very different. Myself and my colleague stayed here for one night as we needed to be in London for work and the location was convenient, and I'm glad it was just the one night!

The moment we stepped through the front door it was uncomfortably hot and looked run down and not very welcoming and, after using the manky lift, we squeezed into our awful room. The smell of damp/mustiness was overwhelming and the room was cramped and shabby and unbearably stuffy. There was no shampoo, shower gel etc provided and the metal (why??) shelf in the tiny bathroom was absolutely encrusted with rust. The double bed was small and the mattress was like a rock so needless to say we both slept terribly.

The whole place reminded me of run down council flats that have seen better days and was in dire need of some TLC. Breakfast was also a disappointment with chewy croissants and no hot food.

I find it crazy that you can get a nice clean, comfortable and spacious Travelodge room for the same price as we paid for this dive (if you book early enough).

On the plus side, the room was clean despite the shabbiness (particularly the shower) and the staff were friendly, but this wasn't enough to make me ever want to stay again!

The photos look good on the website but in reality not so good.... No parking... Price was good get what you pay for don't think you'll get 3 star at all... Big down fall TV was rubbish in terms of signal could only watch channel 5 and ITV 2 which you don't except these days.... Also the traffic noise was too much.

Everything was great, the price is very good for the location. We were a group of five in one room, the room was big with a backyard. The only disadvantage was the mess at the backyard it was dirty, but useful to go out for a smoke. Breakfast included, great location for good price. We are glad for staying there.

It costed $240/3nights included breakfast, private bathroom. It's good deal in that area.
• reception is 24 hours open and staff are kind.
•location is not so bad for London sightseeing. It located near by the station and also London city has huge bus connection. But, Kings Cross are it's quite dangerous area. You have to care for this point.
•breakfast is as the photo.
•bathroom is passable.

We arrived late and were very tired after a long journey and were told our bedroom was down in the basement. Booked because of location and reviews/photos on another website. Clearly, those photos are of some other, nice, place.
We squeezed down the tiny corridor into the room which was dark, dingy, humid, had no ventilation other than a door that led out to a courtyard which was covered in disgusting rubbish.
The wall had a hole in it that looked like someone had punched it, the brown carpet had questionable stains and I was so tired, I was too scared to look closely at the bed linen. It was so warm, neither of us slept at all.
The toilet was another level. Basically you can have a shower as you pee if you want. No space for storage.
When we complained that this wasn't what was presented in the photos, the response from the receptionist was "this is London". We booked another place first thing in the morning and got the hell out of there, never to return.
Neither should you.
