Here's the thing: should I pay half the price, I would be perfectly happy, but above a certain price, at a 4* hotel, I expect some standard.
What I liked: the location is superb, it's easy to find, walking distance for quite a few office spaces as well as from tourist attractions and restaurants. Staff was very attentive and helpful, solved the problems swiftly, however they have only as much power as the facility itself permits.
What I didn't like: the hotel is in desperate need of refurbishing. Peeling off wallpapers in a suite is not something I was expecting when I pay well over 100 GBP. There's virtually no sound isolation. In the morning I woke up by people walking in the upper floor, other day it was some water dripping from pipes next to my window. Not something you want if you need your good night sleep for a day of meetings. My sink got a stuck plug blocking it, which could've been solved pretty easy, wasn't it for the fact that it was midnight and I was dead tired and didn't want to run around the place to get stuff fixed. Last but not least, the pungent sewage smell in the corridor. A colleague of mine had to change rooms as the smell was really bad in her room. Again, fine for cheap dodgy place, not for a 4*. For my ground floor room, the cold air draft was also a problem, especially in the bathroom. You really don't want to get a cold shock once you get of the warm shower.

If you really dead set on staying in this hotel, pick a room far from stairs and preferably in the upper floor, so you avoid hearing other people walking above you etc... otherwise I'd say for the same price, you can be much better off in some of the nearby hotels.

Room Tip: Upper floor, probably more quiet

In London for a week on business with about a dozen colleagues from around the world. This hotel was excellent in a couple of ways! Minutes from British Museum, serviced by a couple of close tube stops, huge, quaint rooms, faced a quiet street ( Bedford Place ), lovely helpful staff. Very comfortable. Bathrooms and shower are classic English! Bottomless Breakfast was included. An easy walk to Covent area, shopping and other sights. No gym, but I don't use one anyway. Felt very safe.

We've been to London many times, and stayed on many different hotels. I was looking for something within walking distance to restaurants and the theaters, not far form the Tube and quiet. I also wanted to avoid the tine rooms that you often get in London.

We got a large suite in the house where the reception is, on the top 3.rd floor. It was a large room, quiet, good bed. OK bath and a small kitchenette. Which was good for a small bite at breakfast or before going out in the evening., And for storing fruit, something to drink and so on. The pople at the desk were very helpful, and the store our luggage the last day because we had a late departure. The walk to both Holborn and Russel Square are around 6 min. And we took the Piccadilly line straight from/to Heathrow.

A hotel we might come back to.

The rooms are spacious and clean, very comfy to stay in but sound proof is not too good as I could hear people walking up and down the stairs or talking outside the window. Request for room facing garden so it's more quiet.

Great location as it's right behind British museum. A bit of walk to nearest train station.
There many good eateries within walking distance due to its central location.
